OF THE CLUB WOMEN Want Tfcey r Doing la rieas Parrs of the Cwoatry. Y. Mr. J. H. Dumont has resigned her mem bership oh the board of directors of th Toung Women Crrt1ln association, th resignation to go Into effect at once. Mra Dumont waa also treasurer of the asso rlsllon's building r-ommHtee. which offlp she also resigned, and Mrs. C. M. Wllhelm hss been appointed to fill the vacancy. Mra. Dumont has given long and most ef ficient service to the assoclstlnn nd th vacancy on Its board caused by her reia nation has not yet been filled. Th appointment of Mr. Harriet S. Msc Murphy as an assistant stste food inspec tor will meet the approval of the score of women In Nebraska, who have known her through her work for household eco nomics and pur food, In the Nebraska Federation of Women" Clubs. Mr. Me Murphy a leader of the household eco nomics department of the Omaha Woman' club was active In working for the pass age of the state pure food law, which had. the support of the rlub women. The South Carolina Federation of Wo men's Club, among other educational work thla year, paid the expenses of a teacher for two weeks at the Jamestown expo sition that , she might attend the model training school being held there for th benefit of outhern teacher. The library extension committee of the federation ha collected $7.on0. and established a much needed circulating library In the at sta One of the chief aim of the federation thl year 1 to hve the stats create a traveling library commission for the support and cir culation of a librsry. For some time th club of the state have observed an educa tional day each year and have oo -operated with th local and state authorities in es tablishing high schools and In an effort to secure a compulsory education law. Th establishment of a state Industrial school for boy has been leading protect of th clubs of the federation and subcoon mlttees have been appointed to bring the matter to local representative of the legislature. For the last two years th achool teach er of Providence, R. I., have maintained a voluntary retirement fund which ha not been adequate to the demands upon It During the session of the last legislature a bill waa presented In the .lower house asking iJie committee on education for a yearly pension for the teacher. While It was not successful, msny club women man ifested their Interest by being present at the hearing and presenting argument In Its fsvor. The annuity for teachers who have completed a term of ervlce entitling them to it benefit I rapidly gaining favor. In several cltles where associations exist, the fund has been materially Increased by gift from former teacher or other ta sympathy with the plan. Mra Walter Stoke Iron, one of the prominent eastern club women and am president of the Rhode Island federation, make the following plea to the club women of her own slate that may well b con sidered by the .women of Nebraaka: i To many club women the federation mean simply a few big meetings each year, more or less enjoyable, and a body with tiresome requests ss to special day on the programs, and as to petitions to sign. Other club women, on the contrary, are well informed as to all the plans and work of the federation board, and take an intelligent Interest m all that pertain to It. Whence the difference? it lies In the policy of the club to which the woman oo longs. During the previous administration It was asked and urged again and again that each director report to her club after each meeting of the state board, so that every club woman In the state might know- the work of the federation might feel that she hsd part in It. The present officers have held the same pollcv, put there are at III club which never have a report . The state president asks agatn that every club president make a report for her di rectors' report. She asks each club woman to listen to the details of the work, and to help the state board by Interest and by suggestions. The federation belongs to you, the rlub women of the stete. It la your to make of It what you will. SHERIDAN STATUE BY OMAHAN Messnrat to Great Co valry General Will Bo Mede by J. Gwtsom Berglass.
