For several weeks those who hae been
In touch with the subject hare known that
the members of the board have been at
work on the matter and hare been rather
llhural In expending; cash to advance the
object.
Wednesday E. U Ooley of CTileaajo and
J. T. Fannlrur of Minneapolis were tn the
city, and a few days ago M. t Holman
of Bt lunula, all engineers, visttnl Omaha
and made a rapid survey of the city.
Messrs. Fanning and Cooley say they are
on a tour of inspection; that they are not
talking, as the matter which fney are
working on Is In no shape for a report,
but a report may be expected from other
quarters In a short time. They called
upon the city engineer and requested a
number of blue prints of surveys taken
by the city engineer a number of years
ago when Mr. IUswater was working on
a plan for gravity water supply for Omaha
to be used In csvs of flres and other emer
gencies. They hate secured the blue prints
and the Water board has a set pf the same
copies, which was delivered to It about the
time two members of the board made trips
to other cities.
What the Record Hhovea.
The only publlo record of theee trips Is
the financial record in the office of the city
comptroller. This record Is as follows:

It will be noted that the engineers from
the places visited by Dr. Hippie are the
ones who have visited this city to make
the topographical survey, and rumor has
it that the Bt. Louis man. M. L. Holman.
has been retained as consulting engineer
of the proposed plant, with the other two
as advisors.
Tho last meeting of the Water board waa
the occasion of a general cleaning up of
the accounts held against the board by
Carl C Wright, the attorney for the
board. Mr. Wright presented three bills,
the total aggregating 8,00a The first bill
waa for legal services rendered In the
waUr suit and waa for T7,000; the next waa
for his regular fee as attorney for the
board, 2M, and the third waa an expense
account, the items on which dated from
the beginning of 1906.
