LINCT LN, July 11. Omaha won from
Lincoln today by a score of 6 to 1 At no
lime was there doubt about the result.
Error by Zlnran and Thomas helped
Oiraha to core, while poor playing on
the prt of Third Baseman M"ler added
to Lincoln's burden of grief. Lincoln made
but lx hlta on Haifa pitching, while Cl
cotte allowed the visitors eight. A cool
north wind and partly cloudy skIps made
an Ideal day for good work on the field.

Rnhlln Knew He Had Nn Chance.
Did you ever hear how Ous Ruhlln be
came convinced even before he met Jeffries
lhaX he had no chance to win from the biff
fellow f Well, here it la: Maybe you re
member that Ruhlln and his manager,
Billy Madden, spent several weeks at Port
land, Ore., from which vantage point they
hurled sarcastic challenges at the Call
fornlan. '
Finally they were matched and when
Jeffries agreed to box Kennedy four rounds
Ruhlln was on hand to see Just what he
could expect.
The first round Kennedy outpointed his
burly opponent. Ruhlln was all smiles.
But next round. Just one punch settled
Kennedy. '
"What an awful punch," said some one
to Ruhlln, who had a ringside seat.
And evidently Ruhlln agreed from the
way the light died out of his eyes.
"He was licked right there," said Jeffries.
"He knew then he had enough."

GOLFERS MARE LOW SCORES
Qualifying: Limit in National Amateur
Tournament is 165.
TRAVIS WINS THE GOLD MEDAL
Former Champion Tarns In l,OTet
Card Eighteen Westerners, Thir
teen Kasterners and Trro
Canadians Qualify.
CLFTVELAND, O., July ll.-Thlrty-three
contestants for the nnttonal amateur golf
championship yesterday finished qualify
ing rounds with scores of 166 or better.
Nothing could better show the high class
of the field that is entered for this year's
championship than these scores, the high
figure being four strokes better than that
of a year ago at Englewood, N. J., when
189 qualified. The Kuclld course, over
which this year's championship la to be
decided. Is regarded by most experts as
being two strokes easier than the New
Jersey course, so this shows a good msr
gln In favor of the field that Is entered
this year.
With weather conditions almost perfect
for good golf, many low scores were made
today. Walter J. Travis, twice winner of
the national championship, former holder
of the championship of Great Britain, and
always regarded aa one of trie most for
midable contestants, today tied the amateur
course record of 71, which ! the best
cor ever made In a national amateur
golf championship and but for a topped
mldlron shot on the fifteenth hole, which
proved costly, might have tied the profes
sional record of 69, made by Willie Ander
son two years ago. W. T. West of the
Philadelphia Country club, also made this
score earlier In the day, but the 43arden
City veteran got the gold medal for the
lowest qualifying score, as on yesterday
ha made 75 to the Philadelphia youngster's
78.
Walter E. Egan and Chandler Egan of
Exmoor, Fred Herreschoff of Garden City,
Norman Macbeth and W. C. Fownes, Jr.,
Of Oakmont, W. A. Stlckney of St. Louis,
George S. Lyon, the Canadian veteran, F.
R. Martin of Toledo, National Champion
E. H. B. M. Byera, O. W. Jones of Toledo,
H. W. Fraser of Toledo, S. O. Stlckney
of St. Louis, J. K. Bole of Euclid, all
made scores under 80, Chandler Egan get
ting a 74 and Travers, Macbeth and W. A.
Stlckney 75 each.
Nineteen Westerners Qnnllfy.
Eleven eastern players, nineteen western
ers and two Canadians qualified for the
championship play, but the draw was un
fortunate for the westerners, as It puts
Western Champion Ned Sawyer and Chand
ler Egan together In the first round. The
east, however, will suffer In the afternoon,
as If Herreschoff and Travers win their
morning matches, as they are almost cer
tain to do, they will meet In the second
round.
Of other favorites for the championship
W. F. Travis meets Father Sherman In the
first round and the winner of that match,
in all probability Mr. Travis, will meet
the winner of the Lyon-W. C Fownes
match In the afternoon.
Among those who turned In qualifying
scores were the following;
D, E. Sawyer, Wheaton, 76, 83168.
W. J. Travis, Garden City, 76, 71-146.
W. C. Fownes, Jr., Oakmont, 79,. 76 15S.
