Carey & Bunion Hill & Son Other buyer Total W 8,634 S94 CATTLE Receipts of cattle today were light, us usual, on the lust day of the week, there being not enough of any one kind on sale to make a test of value. The re ceipts tills week liuve been about on an average, the number being about the same us for lust week and for the corresponding week of a year ago. The arrivals have consisted very largely of corn-fed beeves, there being only a light sprinkling of she stock and a few stockers and feeder. The market on beef steers lias not been very satlstuctory this week viewed from a seller's standpoint The extremely hot weather prevailing In the great consuming center of the east, combined with news paper agitation against prevailing high PlAes for beef, brought about a great re duction In consumption. Retail dealers suddenly found themselves loaded up with a great quantity of high-priced beef and packers coolers were In the name" condi tion with the demand falling off. With conditions like this In the east. It Is not surprising that the western cattle markets have broken badly during the week. All kind of cattle have been on ' the down grade, the common to pretty decent cattle selling right around ' 25c lower for the week. The very best cattle have not suf fered quite that much decline, but they are at least 15c lower. It Is safe to say that everything aside from the choicest beeves is 60c lower then the high time at the be ginning of lust week. Unqueationubly, the 1 market Ib greutly In need ot light receipts for some days to Come until the beef mar ket in the east Is cleaned up and has taken on a more healthy condition. The situation In the cow and heifer mar ket has continued unchanged throughout the week. The deadlock between packer and sellers has been in full force all the time, with the result that the demand ha beon limited and the market slow and un even every day. Fortunately, the country has held back supplies so that receipts have been very light. Lust week receipt on-stockers and feed ere were very light at this point, hut some what more liberal at other markets, with the result that the market here was very strong, while other markets suffered de clines of more or less severity. The com paratively good prices prevailing at this point brought In much larger receipts this week, quite a number of cattle being ship ped here from other market points. As a result of that and also of the break In bfef cattle, prices on even good feeders have declined 20U2fic for the week, with common to medium grades 26t(40c lower. More than that the demand has been so poor that receivers met with great dif ficulty In tinlondlng their cattle and many of those purchased by speculator remained In the yards all the week awaiting a buyer.
