Parents of such pupils may secure applica tion blanks by applying to Superintendent Yodcr. It is necessary that the applica tions be In by June 10 In order that proper steps may be taken for a tax levy In the school districts from which the pupils come to defray the tuition fee of 75 cents a week provided for In the law. The law makes It obligatory on the school authorities of the district to levy a tax MiflW lent to raise the money to pay the In which their own schools are lacking may madc up at the expense of the dls- triet in some other district. I'nder the law schools desiring to re ceive credit for any high school work must meet the requirements of the Nebraska High school manual In the matter of teachers, apparatus, etc. State Superin tendent McBrlen, discussing this point In the Nebraska Teacher, says: The countv superintendent, In this capacity. lioconies the countv inspector of high schools for all high schools of the county which maintain less thsn the full four venrs high sononi course. wi signing a certlliiate for any such high school pupils, he will need to satisfy hlm srlf bv Inspection and such other means as he "mnv desire on the following points: tai That" the hish school course of study Includes the proper amount snd kind of work for the grades completed. TOO HANDY WITH HIS PEN Missouri Convict a Mathematical Urulas Whom Boose Ijtld Ont. In a cell in the county Jail In Kansas City, under sentence for the second time to the penitentiary, is a genius for figures a man known for his works to mathematicians the world over. This man Is Prof. Michael An. gelo McOlnnis. The statement that he Is a genius has for its authority Prof. J. M. Greenwood, superintendent of the schools of Jackson county, himself an author of mathematical works of national reputa tion. This Is what Prof. Greenwood says of the prisoner: "McOlnnis Is a very remarkable man, who has let liquor get the best of him. He is a mathematical genius. He has evolved a theory, a solution of numerical equations, that excels that discovered by W. O. Hor ner of Hath. Englund, In IMS. which has been followed by all the universities. v..n. v,e has ev.ilved a theorv bv which I he can solve literal equations as far aa the j sixth degree. If he can solve literal equa tions above the fourth degree he has made ' a discovery for the world. In mathematics there Is no theory for the solution of literal equations above the fourth degree. I am greatly interested In McOlnnis because he Is well grounded In mathematics and has a peculiar capacity for Investigation and discovery. I will look Into his new theory. I hope it will stand the test." Mr. McGlnnJs was born on a farm near Applcton. W'Ih., fifty years ago. He is a direct descendant of John Napier, Inventor of logarithms. McGlnnls was three years ' principal of Oconto iW'is.) High school. Then he moved to Meuford. Ore., where he published a newspaper. From there he I moved to Juleshurr.
