May Wheat rrlces on the Hoard of Trade again crossed the dollar mark today on a sesnatlonal bulge which carried September up to ll.m and Decem ber to f.i. At the same time July ad vanced to 99Vt The upturn was due to reports that this year's wheat crop in Kurope and America would be greatly be low the normal owing to Injury by un favorable weather and by Insects. The net gain for the day on the July delivery was MjoVfcc, compared with yesterday's final quo tations. The September option was up 4V December an en 5c higher. Provisions ctoeed iHc to 10c er. -.. e pandemonium which accompanied the atiozul advance in the price of wheat musi equalled that or last Monday, when I t'rlcea made a spectacular ascent bevond 1 She dollar mirk. VWIke Monday, how- I ever, the passing of the dollar point oc curred today within the last few minutes of trading. After opening weak on re alising sales, which were brought out by lower cables and warmer weather, the market at the end of the first half hour started on an apparently normal recovery. Beveral leading commission houses bought freely all day, but reaJktlna- sales were so heavy that the price rallied slowly. The combined purchases of the Tew of the lead ing houses' during the afternoon, It Is said, aggregates between 6.0ii,(H and 7.0"o.oi0 bushels. This demand was based on un favorable crop reports regarding not only the American crop, but that of Europe as Well. Russian reports being particularly pessimistic. The weekly government report from Washington states that "throughout a great part of central and eastern Europe the outlook for a successful season Is de cidedly less promising than was surmised a month ago." In addition to these ad vices many reports were received from the Southwest claiming a big reduction In the winter wheat crop. During the last fif teen minutes of the session, by which time fellers had become less numerous, the big demand which had existed all day became tonsplcuous. The demand was so urgent that prices advanced by leaps and bounds, sometimes ic or V apart. Prices brought remote profit taking, but the reaction thus occasioned did not seriously affsct the net result, the closing being excited and strong July opened a shade to lVlc lower at t!wo to HSVe, advanced to Sfto. a new litgh point for the crop, and closed at teW. aji'4,0 over yesterday's close. September, Laving sold at Stfc at the opening, ad vanced to COS, also a new record for that delivery, and closed at !Hc- Decem ber opened at ff0 to advanced to 11.02 nd closed at 11.01. Clearances of wheat and flour were equal to 113.000 bu.. Primary receipts were 681, 0u0 bu , compared w ith ISS.Ou bu. a year ago. Minneapolis, Duluth and Chicago reported receipts of 411 cars, against IM cars last week and 138 cars a year ago. The market for corn w as weak at the tart because of hesry realising bssed upon Improved weather and on the break In wheat. Lter the market rallied In sym pathy wtth wheat; the eajiy loss was re gained and the market closed strong, with prices at the high, point of the dsy. NEW YORK, May IS Stagnant condi tions continued to prevail todiy In the stock markets of the world and the volume of transactions In New York wns so trivial as to leave little significance In the price movements whirh ate due al most wholly to the shifting operations of a small professional class who s ek only to scalp a quick profit on a narrow price movement The movement proved extremely sluegisli even for the purchases of this rUiss. s that their oj-eratlona are on . a dwindling scale, brokers are hopeless appMrently ot any early revival of Interest in the markit unless in the event of s-uue um xjn-cted de velopment which may rve to stimulate activity. Eager use was mad-- yesterday of the short lived sensation caused by the publication of the purported report of tha Interstate Commerce commission on the Harrlman railroads inquiry and efforts were made to extend those Influences into today s dealings. The effort was pra Lie ally unsuccessful, pome sjierial weakness of Chesapeake A Ohio today might have been connected with the recommendation alleged to have ben agreed upon by the commission to prohibit railroad companies from purchasing shares In other railroads. That stuc k s weakness was attributed, however, to rumors of a forthcoming note Issue. The Delaware Hudson equtjment note Issue and the General Electric con vertible bond issue served to tiring atten tion back to the question of the supply of capital available to meet the needs of cor porations. The course of the bond market offers no Indication of the working oiT of congestion of issues. The newly listed LsJce Shore delenture fronds signal ;r,d their ajipearance In the Stock exchang' trading by a decline to a low record f g ure. Current reports of the large propor tion of subscriptions which had been al lotefl in the Cnited I'acifl - convertible bond underwriting took the edge off the first Impression of the success of that transac tion, which was of a large over subscrip tion. New York bankers heard with Interest of the renewal of the movement of gold from London to Paris. In connection with the hardening of discount rates In London and the sharp rise In sterling exchange In this market, conditions are brought again toward the point of profit on shipments of gold from New York to Paris, which seemed to be Imminent In the early prt of last week. Time money rates here were rather easier today. It la considered prob able, however, that any decline In local money rates to a point which would per mit gold exports would be taken advantage of by the secretary of the trwsury to draw down government deposits with the national banks In preparation for the re demption of maturing gold bonds on July 1 Stocks seemed comparative v free from the reflected Influence of the wheat market today until the late upward flight In wheat, when stocks ran off from sl'ght advances which had been established. At tl.e ojjetiing the outlook was none too good and there was a weak feeling plainly dis cernible. Packers at all points are an ticipating large receipts of cattle In conse quence of the high price of corn, which would have a natural tendency lo induce free shipments. Hence they are rather bearish In their views. In spite of the fact that conditions seemed favoiable for lower prices or for a weak market, at least, there was a fair out arde demand and the trade opened in pretty good season wtth prices steady to a little stronger on some of the better cattle. Anything that would do for shipping ac count sold quickly and aa high aa S5 70 was paid. Cows ttnd heifers were in fair demand, but the market was without any very note worthy change, being generally quo.ed steady with yesterday. Still there were spots where It looked. If anything, weak and some sellers thought they were forced to sell, if anything, a Tittle lower than yei terday. Stockers and feeders commanded steady prices and the trade wss a little more active, owing to the more favorable weather. In some cases sellers thought they secured a littlel better prices for their desirable stock cattle. Representative sales: BEEF STEERS. No. II . 17... 14.. 4... 14...
