PARIS ROMANCE ENDS HERE
I.ove Affair Born In France Culmi

Omaha.
Raoul Laparra, one of the foremost of
the younger school of French writers of
opera, was married In Omaha Tuesday
morning to Minn Marie Shanafelt of Mon
roevllle, O.
The marriage was a culmination of a ro
mance that started In Paris four years
ago. At that time Miss Shanafelt was study
ing voice In the French capital. Young
Laparra was writing operas. He had Just
returned from Italy, where he had taken
the grand prise at the Academe In Rome.
The young people met and the'lr friend
ship rapidly grew Into love. AVhen Miss
Shanafelt sailed for America a year later
she had promised to marry the young com
poser. He visited her once since then.
Monday they met by appointment In
Omaha, Laparra coming direct from Parl
and Miss Shanafelt from Tabor, la., where
she teaches voice In Tabor college.
Mr. Lapparra talked to a reporter r.t the
Merchants hotel with the small supply of
the English langugage at his command.
If dress la Indicative of artistic tompera-
ment, M. Laparra Is truly an artist. A
small man, with great brown eyes, long,
curly, black hair and a tiny black mous
tache clinging to his lip. Is M. Laparra. Ha
wore a gray suit, a black silk tie that
flowed all over the -front of his coat and
gondola hoots.
"Ah, yes, It was hard, vcr hard to ba
eparat' so long," said M. Laparra, clasp
ing his hands and parting his thin lips in
a pleasant smile. "We keep up much cor
respondence, however; and now, now she Is
mine.
"I meet her first In Paree. Ah, fine girls
have we In France and In Spain my
parents were of Spain but she, lis Ameri
can girl, capture Immedlatement my heart.
She go again to her land, but 1 forget not
her, and now Is It consummate."
M. Laparra had Just placed Ms new
opera, "La Habanera," with the Opera
Comlque In Paris before leaving on his
long trp to claim his bride. He Is also
writing a Greek opera.
He Intends to hear the Indians sing
before going back and writing down th
music so he can Incorporate it Into an
opera he Is now preparing for the Opera,
Comlque In Paris. He will give concert
In Tabor, Central City and other point
before returning with his wife to Franca,
