BREMEN. April 22. The verdict of tn4)
Germnn admiralty court of the collision
In November last between the North Bre
men Lloyd steamer Knlser Wllhelm der
Grosse and the British Royal Mall line
steamer Orinoco, off Cherbourg, Is that
the accident waa "due to excusable errora
on both sides."
The British admiralty court of December
18 decided that the North German line
steamer Kaiser Wllhelm tier Grosse wag
alone blamable fox the collision off Cher
bourg November A between that vessel
and the British steamer Orinoco. The suit
for damages was brought by the owners
of the Orinoco.
According to the reports submitted to the
captain of the port of Cherbourg by the
commander of the Kalsor Wllhelm der
Grosse, the German vessel was rounding
the head of the dyke at Cherbourg, when
its captain perceived the Orinoco and
"gave two blasts of his whistle as a signal
for the Orinoco to keep to starboard." The
Orinoco, the report added, did not respond
and the signal was repeated from the
Kaiser Wllhelm dr Grosse, but still the
Orinoco did not change Its course and al
most Immediately afterwards crashed Into
the German steamer's starboard bow. The
dispatch from Cherbourg added that not
withstanding this report, the authorities
at Cherbourg regarded the Kaiser Wllhelm
der Grosse as having been at fault, aa it
was running at the rata of eight knots an
hour, whereas the Orinoco was running
only three knots, and it was the former's
duty to keep clear of the latter. Besides,
the captain of the German vessel wag
blamed for discharging his pilot before the
vessel was clear of the harbor. Thirteen
persons lost their lives and fifteen were
