A burglar entered the home of R. A.
Barhman at 1S17 Second avenue Friday nnd
stole a watch valued at J45 and $1.35
In cash. The fellow took Mr. Rachman'a
watch from beside his bed. but as the case
wan only a silverlne one, discarded It and
left It on the dining room table. Tho
watch, while only having a silverlne case.
Is valued by its owner at tW. Entrance
was effected by the kitchen door, which,
it Is supposed, the burglar opened with a
skeleton key. The burglar left both the
kitchen and the front door, by which he
left the house, wide open. Mr. Rachman'a
son was awakened, presumably by the
-nnlse of tho thief opening the front door.
He noticed the house felt cold, as the wind
was blowing clenr through It. and start'-d
to Investigate. The two open doors showed
the house had been visited and Investigation
led to the discovery of the theft of the
watch and money.
The residence of Jamea E. Corwln nt 151(1
Seventh avenue was also visited by a bur
glar Friday night who secured a gold watch
and a small sum eef money. Here entrance
was effected through a window. Mr. Cor
wln awoke In time to see the thief making
his exit thremgh the window. This hap
pened about 1 o'clock and the police were
riotlfleel. but a search of the neighborhood
failed to reveal the burglar.

The mother of the lads died several years
ago, and as the father Is away from home
working every day. they have been left
to run wild. Friday night they were
found sleeping in a Great YY'estern box
car and were turned over to the police.
Judge Wheler decided they would be bet
ter off by far at the state school at Kldora
and they were taken there last night by
Deputy Sheriff McCaffery.

YV. A. Brldgeman. a gardener living
about thre miles east of the city, was
severely Injured In a runaway uccldent
on Broadway yesterday afternoon. He
was driving a team of young, spirited
horse hitched to a farm wagon. At
Bryant street the horses started on a
run and Brldgeman was unable to control
them. They dashed acj-oss the street,
swerving Just as they reached the side
walk. The wagon struck the curb and
Brldgeman was thrown, striking on bU
bead and shoulders. When picked up
Brldgrmun was unconscious, but soon
came to. He had a deep rut In the h'aJ
I over the left ear and 9 number of smaller
I cuts and bruises. He compla.'ied of the
, pain In his head aud was taken to tha
Kdmumlson hospital In the police ambu
lance, ills condition last night as re
ported to be critical
The team continued on Its career until
It struck a telephone pole at the "corner
of Proadway and Fourth street, -fter col
liding with a delivery wacon belonging ta
C. Morgan. The wagon was badly broken
and one of the horses was Injur-d about
the fore legs. It la said that only a few
months ago Brtdgeman was somewhat
severely Injured by the same team run
ning away.

stalled at the state fair grounds for the
purpose of lighting the grounds and build
ings. The board has decided to make an
exposition of the fair as well as a fair.
This means that It must bo lighted nt night
as brilliantly as at day. An effort was
made to Induce the Des Moines Edison
Light company to run win s t.i the grounds,
which are live miles from the company's
plant, and to furnish the light for the
groun , and buildings. The wiring would
necessitate an Investment of Ilit.ooO ami
the company would not take hold of It

The directors of tho fair have therefore
decided to put In as much of the plant
as. possible this year. One wing of a build
ing will be erected and a boiler and dynamo
will be Installed. The Intention will be to
add to the plant each year as the- profits
of the fair will allow. Every building on
the grounds will In time; be outlined with
electric lights.
