It 4 not at all dlTlciiU to understand the
reasons for the present break In hog prices.
Packers hare been very bearish nil winter

the prevailing high prices of hogs, but In
spite of their opinions receipts at all mar

for the product was so good thit prices
advanced In spite of them. During the last
two weeks there has been a ve-y noticeable
Increase In the receipts and this has given
packers the opportunity thst they have be?n
waiting for all winter and they have not
been at all backward about tak ng ad

abloMo force prices downward at 1a rapid
rate as noted above.

Sllt.fc.jr' There were six fresh cars re
ported in today, but they were- mostly di
rect to packers or consigned to eastern
points, so that there was nothing if con
sequence on sale. The receipts for the week
show a considerable gain over the previous
ween anu over a year ago.
Lnder the Influence of large receipts both
here and at other selling points, the mar.
ket has-reacted sharply. The decline at
this market amounted generally to lSfilie
up to Thursday. On Fr.day the receipts
were light and buyers bought the few loads
on sale at a little stronger prices, so that
the feeling at the close of the week Is quite
good and operators on the market are an
ticipating good prices for desirable killers
next week. Still at the close of the week
the market Is generally i;r12oc lower, tin
less It might be on the very best grades,
which are perhaps not that much off
isext week win be the last or ient, arter
which there ought to be a better demand
and a good, firm market In consequence
The fact is sheepmen are feeling very hope
ful as to the future of the market, and
vvlille occasional reactions are to be ex
pected as a matter of course, everyone is
looking forward to the maintenance of
good, strong prices throughout the balance
of the season.

OMAHA. March 23. 1907.
Trading was very light and resulted. Is
an extremely dull and quiet market, with
an easier tune In evidence. Weakness was
manifest In corn and oats, severe pressure
being brought to bear upon oats, which

"Denials and atllrmations were received 1r
equal number as to the crop damage from
green bugs and hot winds lit the southwest
and the market was unsettled, but with a
bearish feelbig predominating. Large Aus
tralian wheat shipments were reported and
had an unfavorable influence, and prices
declined V. but the close was tinner, with
a recovery of V. July options closed at
the low point.
Corn was "weak, as cables came much
lower, the export demand being very poor.
Receipts were large, out not as ncavy
expected, and there was considerable pres
sure to svll. Options in May corn declined

the general Impressjoii seems to bo for a
lower range of prices.
Scattered selling by commission bouses
caused a sharp rencllon of Mr In oats and
the market mot with little support. The
cash demand is slow and large receipts was
the principal cause for the slump In prices.
The close was wea.k at oc asked for the
