were
today
not large enough to amount to anything,
but for the week the total has been very
large, as will bt noted by the figures at
head of column. These figures show not
only a liberal gain over last week, but a
very heavy Increase over the correspond
ing week of last year. In spite of the
large receipt the market, though slow on
some day, has been very well maintained.
Beef steer during the early part of the
week were slow and there waa some Utile
evidence of weakness, especially on the
warmed-np cattle lacking; quality, such as
neither packers nor feeder buyers cared
for. In spite of the apparent Indifference
of buyers the receipts were kept well
cleaned up, so that there was no uccumula.
tlon of stock In the yards. uniting the
latter half of the week, with lighter re
ceipts and with a better demand, due to the
presence of buyers for outside account, the
market firmed up until at the close of the
week good killing cattle are fully as high
as they were a week ago. Half-fat caulo
of Inferior quality are possibly a little
lower. It might be well to mention that
feeder buyers have been a great support
to the market, taking many of the warmed
up cattle of good quality at better prices
than packer will to pay. ,
Cows and heifer were rather Blow on
some day during the first half of the
week, but they, too, became more active
toward the latter pert of the week and at
the close are fully as high a they were a
week ugo. Some very good heifers have
been received this week, one load Belling aa
high aa $4.75.
Stockers and feeder sold very freely
every day at good, firm prices. At the

HOGS Receipts of hogs this morning
were quite liberal, ninety-five car being
reported In. Buyers were still on the bear
side of the deal und the markety opened
generally 10c lower than yesterday's av
erage market The early sales were lurgely
at $6.47ViU6.60, a against $ii.574ut!.tiO yester
day. Some very good hogs sold up to $6.55,
as against a top yesterday of fr. 65. Somo
of the buyers even at these figures were
not very anxious for hogs and were holding
back, and the market was slow and dull
at the decline. Later on, before sellers
were able to unload, eonie of the buyers
filled their orders aud dropped out, giving
other buyers a at 111 better opportunity to
poung the market.
The market closed a flat 15c lower than
yesterday general market, the late sales
being principally at fii.45. Today decll.ie
carries the market to the lowest point
touched since the middle of January.
The receipts for tho week foot up 62,541
head, as against 41.7D4 for the Corresponding
week of lat year. The liberal receipt
have enabled buyers to pound the market
this week and they have not been slow to
make the most of the opportunity, ("nder
the Influence of the Severe pounding ad
ministered by packers, prices have showed
a decline all the week und at the close
are all 35c lower than on Saturday of lust
week.
