Snstnln Market.
v OMAHA, March 12. 1907.
Wheat opened easy, but a aermatlonal
bull movement near tha close pushed prices
lVjo over Uie opening. Cables came lower,
but prices were wll sustained In view of
iha irf.mrlv bearish Influence yesterday
of the government crop report, whlcn
showed the winter wheat reserves aa tne
largest in record, ...
aelllng movement waa started early In
the market, but met with little succes
aftet the receipt of Bradstreet a ostlmat
of a decrease of 360,000 bushels In the
world s visible supply and also confirma
tion of reports of crop failure In Texas. .
The bears were encouraged by denlala of
the green bug stories from Oklahoma and
aianaas, but there were rumors of partial
crop damage In Ohio and Indiana.
The market closed with the bulla In full
away. May wheat being 711c, bid. a gain
of lWo.
Corn waa Inactive, prlcea for the May
crop being generally sustained, and the
July options closed at an advance of V.o.
Foreign advlcea gave lower prices and the
bearish government report waa unfavorable
for futures. The cause of an early lose In
July options waa generally attributed to
the stinking out of small stop-loss orders,
although the northwest were sellers; of the
July and September cropa.
- May corn closed strung, options being
quoted at CVtd bid and July options at
41e bid. , ' j
Oats acted badly and suffered a shatp
decline after the opening of the. market.
While the opening waa steady, scattered
liquidation ensued and prices fell WC.
News for the sudden decline was lacking,
but the market rose sharply at the close
In sympathy with wheat. May oats closed
firm, options being quoted at a loss of Vc
from th opening, while July options closed
steady at 37Hc asked.

The announcement that the green Bug
has Invaded the wheat fields of Kansas
was the reason for the strength developed
late In tha day In the wheat market. Pit
traders here assumed that the reported
Invasion will result In much damage to
the crop of that state and this caused
a wild scramble on the part of shorts to
cover their sale. During the last fifteen
minutes of trading the price of the May
option advanced more than lo per bu.,. and
the close was excited and strong, with
price at the highest point of the day.
The early sentiment In the market was de
cidedly bearish and prlcea ranged below
the close of yesterday. The government's
estimate of farm reserves was mainly re
sponsible for this weakness. Lower prices
at Liverpool also encouraged tha sellers.
A decrease of X24.fr bu. In the world's

RECOVERY OF MONDAY IS CONTINUED
Morgan's Visit to White Hons Glee
Feel I as; of Hopefelaess t Hold
er of Railroad Issnes
Close Is steady.
NEW TORK, March li-The stock market
was remarkably free still today from the
voluminous and Indiscriminate selling which
had so demoralising sn effect on specula'
tire sentiment up to the end of last week.
Freed from pressure of this damaging con
dition there was some extension of th re
covery which w In force yesterday. Th
buying demand which affected thl recovery
waa fitful and apparently hesitating, fall
ing at times to very meager proportion
and alternating with some renewal of sell
ing. The selling, however, waa at the
higher level and waa not pursued on the
decline.
The Incident of th day' new on which
most stress waa laid from the market
standpoint w th Interview at Washing-1
ton between President Roosevelt and J. P.
Morgan. Mr. Morgan's appearance In the
avowed role of a mediator to bring about
an understanding and co-operation between
the railroads and the national government
wa regarded a an Important significance.
Th purpose of the proposed conference
between , the president and railroad execu
tive a to what step might be taken to I
allay the public anxiety a to the relation
between the railroad and th government
Is admittedly of far-reaching consequence ,
to the stock market. The action of the
market today seemed to reflect a feeling
of hopefulnes that om good would re
ult from th move toward a common
understanding. The ground of the hope
ful feeling seemed to be that co-operation
between the railroads and the national gov
ernment to secure the ends sought by the
government may serve to allay the flood of
measures now pouring into state legisla
tures all over the country for restraint upon
rallrond power and which are feared ea
peclally for their variety and conflicting,
requirement. Foreign market seemed to
be equally Impressed with our own aa to
tne importance of th proposed conference.
Buying, of stocks for Lonoon account wa
an Important element In the strength of
the day' market.
The mixture of hesitation and skepticism
In tha ton of the market owed Its origin
largely to the obscurity over the money
outlook. Money tightness of the New York
money market became manifest today and
the question of resource to meet the heavy
April settlements grows in Importance.
Time loans for short period were prac
tically unoffered today and th premiums
began to appear on the Interest rate. Lon
don discount meantime rose to the- Bank
of England rate and the price of American
eagles was raised In the London market.
The Imperial bank of Holland raised Its
discount rate 1 per cent to 6 per cent, to
protect Its gold holding. The subtreasury
at New York has taken from the bank
since the last bank statement 83.4til.OuO,
wWch I more than enough to wipe out th
surplus reserve of the banks as It stood
on Saturday. There are large deposit
being made at the subtreasury for redemp
tion of bank notes; but custom collection
re rso running very heavy. New York
bankers are anxious apparently to avoid
forcing demands npon foreign market for
gold, owing to the bad effect on the de
mand for American securities whloh would
follow. It Is for that reason that special
Interest I felt in the defining of the policy
of the treasury department In the use of
the discretionary power given It by the new
law to deposit customs collections as well
as Internal revenue taxes with the. national
bank. The money situation was called
responsible for the light demand which re
stricted the movement of prices In spit
of tho subsidence of the selling. The day'
extreme advance were not all held, but
the closing ton wa fairly ateady.

Rlir.RP-Receipts were very large again
thia morning, but aa wa the caee yester
day, when the market opened there was
only a small proportion of the totsl In eight.
The remainder of th receipts kept string
ing In all day, thus prolonging the market
from morning until lat In th afternoon.
The market at this point yesterday wii
In splendid condition, th demand heltg
very active, so thst everything that put lr
an appearance, lat trains aa well aa early,
sold very readily at high prhes rem pa red
with other selling points. This morning the
market opened where It left off yeaterdey,
but It waa apparent that buyers were net
quite so intiona for supplies as yesterday.
Btlll they bought the more desirable of the
arrivals at fully steady prices, but the snap
and life an characteristic of yesterday
market waa wanting today. The medium
nd common grades were neglected to a
considerable tent and were hard to move,
with prices anywhere from weak to a llttl
lower.
Hhlpper should not be led by lb high
prices to send In their sheep snd lambs
until they are thoroughly well finished and
ready for market, aa there la every pros
pect that present high prices will be well
maintained, some sheepmen going an far as
to predict even higher prices thirty day
from now.

CATTLE Recelots of caltl were liberal
again thl morning, but there wa the
same old complaint about the late arrival
of train. When the market opened about
half of the receipt were still back, ana
it was afternoon before they were all in
the yards. Thia of Itself wa ufnclent lo
make a alow market, but th unfavorable
advice from other aelllng point con
tributed still further to the same end.
Beef steer were very Blow ana tat in
opening. Buyer seemed disposed to go
very alow and cautious until they wer
better informed a to tne conditions pre
vailing at other market points. The result
waa that the morning was well advanced
before anything of consequence wa don
In the beef line. When the market did
open It waa slow and dull. Some of the
best cattle that buyer Just happened to
want sold In about tha same notche
yesterday, but aside from that prices were
anvwhere from weak to lower.
Cowa and heifer wer In better demand
than steers and sold more freely, the mar
ket on desirable stuff at least being steady
with yesterday
Stockers and feeder were In light supply,
and while there did not appear to be any
very urgent demand from the country
speculator were free buyer at fully ateatly
prices.
