CATTLE There waa a scarcity of oattl
In the yards today, there being tbe usual
naturday a lack of receipt. For the eu
th receipta are mors than double what
they were last week and also a little larger
than a yar ago. Tbe quality of the catUe
coming to market continue very poor, the
great big bulk of the receipts consisting of
half fat or warmed up steer. Not a alngl
cnoic load of finished beeves has nut in an
appearance during the whole week. Tbe
best cattle her war only rood enough
to bring 16 46.
The -market started out 00 Monday with
a sharp break, price thst day being quoted
fully 10c lower. There wa a still further
downward movement in values on Tuesday,
rinoe which date the market haa been
steady and possibly a trifle stronger than
tne low point on Tuesday. At the cloe
of the week beef steers are right at lOfrdk.-
ower than one week ago. There haa nol
been great amount of life or suud lo the
trade at any time, but still buyers have
kept taking the cattle and there has been
a fair movement since Tuesday.
Cows and heifers were in better demand
If anything, than steers, but still they
too were lower durin the first two Auvi
of the week. Since that time ther have
firmed up o that t the close of tbe week
they are on an average about lugloc lower
than one week ago.
jne market on tuckers and feeders was
very strong at the beginning of the week.
In sj ;te of the weakness tn beef cattle,
feeder sold a high as ever, buyers paying
for the Iiest $0 or better. However, spe
culator were th principal buyer and they
continued free buyers on Tuesday in anti
cipation of a mod oountrv -demand Aa
tlie country demand proved disappointing
nn eimcuiaiorr iouna tnemecives loaded
up -1 in a kit of cattle for which there w
very little ale, tbe market eased off and at
the close of the week la fully 1G 15o lower
than it wa t the beginning of the week.
The decline wa fully as much If not more
on the high priced oattl than It wa on
tne npnier grade.
HOGS There was nn a-ren rlu... t. .v..
hog market today, but such change as took
iiiace was on me sioe Of improved value.
rnr tbe moat part however, hm sr.lrl in
about the same notches s yesterday ' the
most of them ruing at IH.RO&C.ffi. with 16 L-,
a ery popular price. The trade when one-
unoerwa was lalrly active aad most
(f the hogs changed hands in good season
in the morning Aa wa the case tter
auy. there wor a few 1: ad food 0 0 gh to
buig au.su, which as u. top tor poth
day.
Tbe receipts of hog this week hav been
fairly liberal. howli.g a goci Increase tver
laat week, being about on a par with the
record U a year ago. It will b noted In
thl eonrioctlon that the receipt of bog
for the year to date are still quite a little
behind last year s record. The market dur
ing che laat six daj a ha been weak,
pucker having acted entirely on the bear
aide and being apparently determined to
break price. Older the influence of the
oonunued hammering value have eased off
and at the close of the week are 10c lower
than on last Saturday. It would appear
from the tactic of buyer tht they are
determined 10 prevent further advance in
tbe market if 11 is within their bower to
do so.
