ury's offer IS H per cent higher than was
made In December for ll0.iO0.000. At that
time only about I3.ono.000 of the bonds was
turned In. The price offered Is practically
all there Is In the market. The response
to the offer Is not expected from holders of
the bonds who have them on deposit to
secure circulation. From Investment hold
ers It Is not expected that large offerings
will be made. More stress was laid on
the expectation that the declelon of
tha treasury would be modified regarding
the withdrawal of deposits on Friday.
There were rumors In constant circulation
In the market also of a feeling of greater
confidence on the part of capitalists over
the sttltude of the administration towards
corporations. There was some vagueness
In the current surmises on the subject,
varying from supposed modification of the
plana of the government to the belief that
the feeling of Increased confidence simply
represents modified views of capitalists as
to the probable effects of ths government
program.

CATTLR The bad break in the cattle
market last week had the hoped for effect
of shutting ff receipts today, with the re
sult that the offerings - were the lightest
thst they have been for a Monday In a
gnat while. While there was a little of
everything In ths yards, there was still not
enough of any out thing to hardly maks A
market. The quality was also poor on an
average, there being more than tha usual
smount of trash on sale.
With such a small amount of stuff In
sight buyers. If anything, paid a little better
prices than at the low time last ween, ana
still there was not much change since
Friday. The feeling seemed to be on both
steers and cow stuff that the conditions
were generally against tha seller and that

Remladed ot Clay.
Bill Nys late one night entered a fashion
abla New Tork hotel and asked for a room.
He looked Seedy, so the bedlamonded clerk
told him there was only one room left, and
that under the cornice, and that he'd have
to pay In advance.
"Oh, all right," was the huntcrlat's reply.
He wrote his name In ths register and
pulled out a heavy roll of yellow-back
bills.
When tha clerk saw tha roll and the nam
a great light dawned on him. "By the
way. Mr. Nye," he said, with sugar In hla
voice, "oome to think of It. we have an
elegant room on the second floor you can
have. I'd forgctten.
"Oh, all right," aald Nye. "But do you
know," he continued, you remind ma of
day?"
Tha clerk swelled and answered: "Why,
no; I don't think anyone sver told me that
I looked like Henry Clay."
"Oh, not Henry," responded Nya. "not
Henry; Just common, ordinary clay, you
