John Martig, who waa arrested Sunday
evening by Sergeants Vanous and Samuel
son for keeping open his saloon at 100!
Howard street In violation of the" Slocumb
law. waa lined $100 and costs after pleading
guilty to the charge of keeping a disor
derly house. His bartender, Florance Thles
sen, who was arrested In the raid of the
saloon, waa discharged.
Martig had Intimated to Chief Donahue
he would plead guilty, but hurriedly
changed his mind when he found that such
action would place his license In jeopardy.
in conversation Wednesday morning with
City Prosecutor Daniel, Martig said he
would fight the case If the charge was for
selling liquor on Sunday, but agreed to
plead guilty If he was charged with the
lesser offense of keeping a disorderly house.
Mr. Daniel was of the opinion that the
evidence of Martlg'a having sold liquor
was none too strong, so filed the complaint
on the disorderly house charge, to which
Martig pleaded guilty.
