CATTLE There were no fresh receipts
of cattle of any conseauence In the yard
this mornlnc, trier being Junt a few scat
tering loads, put not euoush 01 any one
kind to make a market. The receipts for
the week have been very liberal, showing a
large gain over last week and a lair gain
over a year ago. In other words, the re
ceipts lor this season of the year have
oeen unusually large; in fact, most too
targe lor ine time just preceding the noli
as ys. 1
There has been a good active demand all
the week for desirable beef cattle of good I
to choice quality, suitablo for the holiday 1
trade. Cattle of this description have cum- 1
manded good prices all the week and are 1
Just as high a they have been any time.
The beat cattle this week sold as high as
9.86, the best price paid on this market I
since i:iu2. v hlle the best grades have sold
to such good advantage, the high prices
prevailing brought in a flood of warmed-up
and naif -fat steers, which do not kill out
well. Under the influence of the large re
ceipts of these undesirable, cattlo tho mar
ket eased off and the more common kinds
are 15-325C lower than last week. Com
puratlvely few range cattle have been re
celved during the week, but anything In
the way of desirable steers met with very
ready sale at good, steady prices. The fact
Is that the range cattle kill out to much
better advantugo than the warmed-up na
Uvea, and hence buyers give them the
preference. The season, however, is prac
tically at an end for that kind.
Cows and hellers have also been in very
liberal supply all the week, and while, as
was the case with beef steers, the demand
was very good for the best grades, there
were most too many of the medium kinds.
The result was that while good cattle for
the week remained about steady, the me
dium grades eased off and at tlr4 close ot I
tne week are lOTfibc lower than Hint week,
fanners, on the other hand, have been very
good sellers all the week und to far a
can be observed hare commanded about
steady price.
The country continue buying strictly
good feeders and is apparently willing to
pay the prices for that kind, at least, the
market for all desirable grades has been
strong all the week. On the other hand,
even the low prices prevailing for common
and Inferior grades of stockers and feeder
fail to get them off very rapidly and the
market on that kind has been slow from
day to day. Still there has been no very
great change In prices, as they were low
to begin with.
HOGS Hogs were 240 higher this morn
ing than yesterday's general nuukei. S01110
ol the big heavy l.oga did not look wry
much higher than yesterday, while, on tho
other hand, some of the beet light and
butcher weights may possibly have been as
much as 6c higher in epots. Still the gen
eral markca. a noted above, could baldly
be called better than 24o higher. While
the) trade wa not particularly active there
wa a fair demand and the moat of tho
aiTlvals changed hands in fair season.
As mill be noted from tha sales below,
the great big buk of all the hogs sold at
96.0746.16, as against .0ia4.10 yesterday.
A few loads of light bogs sold up to 964,
as against Stt.'-O, the top yesterday.
The receipts of hogs this week show a
large gain over last week, but a falling off
as compared with a year ago of about 10.Ua)
head. The market for the week lias had
both una and downs. At the beginning
there was a considerable advance, but on
Tuexday ar.d Wednesday price broke bidly.
During the last two days there has been
a slight xaction, so that the v-ek ckses
with the market on an average only about
Jo lower than the close of last week.
