but, you know, I've been out walking In the
damp ulr. My word, It almost could be

"I'd cull it a fog." said the clerk.
"Aw, to be sure you would, but then, you
know, you've never lieen In Lunnon. Yet.
I walked down here on the bridge over the
river, you know, and standing there I
could almost Imagine I was on old Black
friars' bridge. And I Imagined a big brew
ery up north was the dome of St. Paul's
and the smelter there, the Thames em
bankment. It really made me homesick for
a moment when I came bark to life and
thought how far away It all It.
"But I've certainly enjoyed this bit of
fog. Walking along the streets I could
almost Imagine I was back In the dear old
streets with the dear old alufch clinging to
me boots and the dear old drops of dew
forming on me hut and top coat.
"I 'ad began to think you 'ad a beastly
climate here with nothing but sunshine and
cold, but since I've tasted a bit of your fog
and mud I've formed a better Idea, you
know."
