NEW YORK, Nov. li.-The day's market
was dominated by various Influences In
St. Paul and there were so constant as to
keep sentiment on the general market a
good deal unsettled. Snirs to realise on
the wide advanca of the last few days
caused an appearance of weakness In St.
I'sul to which the whole market responded,
and again when St. Paul was supported
and showed signs of heavy accumulation on
a rapidly rising scale the whole market
once more turned strong. This was largely
mongst professional op
erators that they could rrod the course of
the Standard Oil group of capitalists In the
operations in St. Paul and to the eagerness
to follow that leadership.
The general public was not largely In ev
idenced In the market and seemed too timid
about attempting to read the evidence of
this supposed leadership In the speculation.
There was no news to Indicate the causes
of the Bt. Paul movement beyond the re
iteration of previoua rumors. The supposi
tion that subscription rights to new stork
were in view waa fostered by the manner
in which thf rise In the preferred stock
kept psce with the common stock, although
on nominal dealings. On the other hand,
the close sympathy In the movements of
St. Paul and Southern Paclflo was regarded
relation with the Harrlman combination of I n-
railroad propertlea. The dealings In the
general market were duller and the fluctu
ations narrower than yesterday owing to
the confusion caused by the varying move
ments In the market leaders. There was
some disposition to look for a motive In
the occasional heaviness of the market to
the Inauguration of the government's prose
cution against the Standard Oil company.
The stock of the company In the curb mar
ket fell sharply some 70 points from the
previous day's price, following similar d-
l cllnes for several days past, but the Mr

Opinion was confident that condltlona in
the money market are working tewtrds
greater ease. The weekly statement Of the
Bank of England disclosed a degree of re
cuperation which promised sufficient Im
provement In time to meet the year end
drain and less fears were entertained pf a
rise to 7 per cent In the official discount
rate before the vear closes).
It was freely urgd In the stock market
todav that greater freedom In extending
credits may be looked for now that the
period ts set with the requirement for the
"window dressing" In expectation of these
calls. The agreement upon a plan of cur
rency reform for presentation to congress
was cited aa a factor In the encouragement
felt In speculative circles. St. Paul rose
during the afternoon 2H points over last
night and the whole market was strong at
that time, but the closing tone became un
settled and Irregular again when Bt. Paul
lost all but one-half of Its rise.

SHEEP Receipts of sheep were verv
light this morning, only thirty-three fresh
cars being reported In when the market
opened. As will lie noted from the table
lit the head, of the column the recelpta of
sheep this week have been very light ss
compared with last week, but still about
on a level with Ihe run of a year ago.
The somewhat liijhter receipts, together
with smaller enstern runs, has given the
market an opportunity to recover some
what from the weakness so noticeable at
the beginning of the week.
Fat sheep rtils morning were In active
demand and as there were very few de
sirable killers In sight everything waa dis
posed of In short order at prices anywhere
from strong to 10c higher. There were no
choice lambs lo make a test of the market,
but a fair kind of lambs sold up to IS. 75,
with some pretty good fat lambs at $8.90.
Aa high as $5.40 waa paid for good fed and
good range wethers. Good range ewes sold
as nigh as 4.90.
There were not very many dealrsble feed
ers In sight, but anything attractive was
easy to sell at good firm prices. While com
mon and Inferior grades were a little alow,
the market as a whole was fairly active
and the barn was practically cleared In
f:oud season. It might be noted that feed
ng ewes which sold considerably lower
last week and the first of the present week
are bringing better prices, right good feed
ing ewes going as high as $4.40 yesterdiy.
The common and inferior grades, however,
ore no higher.

cattle Receipts of cattle were fairly
liberal for a Thursday and the market as a
whole was In very decent condition.
The better kl.ids of fat steers commanded
steady prices and under the Influence of a
good buying demand the supply was ex
