After a itrenumia aMon on the subject of dlvorcA the Oniaha Ministerial union, at Ita regular meeting Monday rooming at the Pint Congregational church, adopted this ut of reaolutiona, merely aa an expression of the union rattier than to bind any mem her to aa otaarvanee: . Refilling the great and growing menace to tne purity and stability of the horns found in Improper marriages and multiplied luvorcea ajid tealising our responsinie re lation to thn matter as ministers of the gospel. w the inwmbers of the Omana Alinisfrlal union, - while fully recognizing the difficulties of the subject and the neces sity that each inlnlHIer be free to follew his ludirmeiit and ronsoionee in each case, do hurnoy sxprens our convictions as to the lit lnciplss which should guide ur acuon py ihe following resuluiionst ' nrstThat no murrlage should be sol emn lied until the officiating minister has varefully Informed himself as to the facts uoncernmg previous nmriiagas. Third That a minister should not sol. emmse a marriaga in a oaee where ha has rajnii to believe that one of the partiee Is the offender agatnxt the former max. rtage bond, nor wncre the previous mar riage was dissolved by collusion without ;uloqiiHte giound. nor In any caaa within una year from the granting of a decree of oivaroe. I Fourth That the above rasolutlooa have j no reference te the annulment of marriage for oauaea existing before marriage, nor to the reunion of a couple who have been dl voroad. C-oasaaltteee as Reaolartlona. . Thw reaolutlona wars presented by Rev. 1L C Herring, chairman of a committee is which the question of divoroa had bee referred, the otbar members of the eoov mittee being Rav. J. R. 8mlth. Rev. A. 8. C. Clarke. Rev. J. W. Oonley and Rav. J. S. itmmoa. The question waa before the tralon two weeks ago, but the ministers at that time were so far apart as to what ae tiun the union ahould take that a oommlt ta was appointed to draw up new reao hitlena. The above resolutions were declared ' adopted by virtue of the fact that the ayes were more than the nays, although many refused to take any part In the proojod- 'ingit so far aa adopting the reaolutlona waa concerned. Explaining why ha should not vote oa the reaolutlona, Rev. Fran I Loveland of the First Methodist church aald: "I think ministers ahould follow the law itt their respartlve churches in the mattsr vt divoroe. The question before ns this morning Involves many questions of sent I ment and ronaclence which cannot be acted on by this body. To adopt resolutions establishing principles and the, have a pre amble saying m may sot aa we chouse will place us In a peculiar position. I ask to he excused from voting under these clrcum- toaeea." Dr. Berdlek Also Objects. Rav. Newman Hall Burdlck of the 8eo- eod Presbyterian church, said re had crowing conviction that the union waa tak ing hold of something it could not carry out. Ha said he did not care to vote aa he ouasfdered the law of the ITeebyteriaa tihuroh to him higher than that of th Omaha, hflniMUtiai utilon. ' Her. Dr. Conley of the First Baptist then tried to calm the troubled waters. by saying the resolutions were Intended merely as an ex pression of Judgment by the' union. Dr. Cloaell of Hansoom Park MethodUt said the reaolutlona were meant for a mo ral effect on the community: striking out of th word "unrenent- cnt" before "offender" In the third clause of the resolutions, caused considerable dis cussion, which resulted in the word being stricken out to preclude the possibility, as aom contended, of a minister solemnlxlne th marriage of a "repentent offender of th former marriage bond." It was arxued that the fact that a man repents afterward do not cnange the law of God on the subject, that only persons having obtained divorce on scriptural grounds shall be married again. Whllo th resolutions were adopted it waa evident they were not embraced bv t majority of the union membership. Appeal to Governor' Mickey.
