Barod Grattan, driven by Geers, was
agreed second, but the other three horsea
in the race were outclassed.
In the 2:30 trot Brilliant Girl had things
her . own way In the first heat, winning
quite easily from Captain Bacon, driven
by her owner. Dr. Day. In the third heat
the Judges substituted McHenry as driver
for Captain Bacon and he won easily.
Brilliant Girl broke Just before the wire
was reached and finished sixth In ihat

AMES' PROSPECTS ARE BRIGHT
All of Old Foot Ball Sqnad Retnrn for
Thla Yenr.
IOWA CITY. Ia.. Sept. B.-(Speclal.)-The
foot ball squad of the State -Agricultural
college at Ames began training tal
week with the beat chances of winning the
state championship they have had In seven
years. Coupled with the fact that the
State university will lose a large number
of Its star players and will, therefore, i.ot
be as dangerous a rival, U the fact that
practically the entire Ames first team has
returned for thla season and the squad
will be strengthened by the presence of
Jeanson. one of the best quarterbacks In
Iowa, who was ruled out of the game last
season for professionalism.
Among the men who have reported at
Ames sre Jeanson. Uw, Lambert, Hub
bard. Green. Watts. Wlllett. Balthas Per
rln. Mills. Lyman. Knox. Ha gen. McEI
henny. Drennen, Bruyer and Barber. The

ber of new men are expected now every
day The men who have reported thus far
are working under Trainer Jack ataon
until the arrival of Head Coach Rlallne.
who Is expected In a few day Amea has
a heavy advantage over the rest of Ih
schools In the state on account of the fact
that It opena nearly a month before any
of them. Iowa will not begin training
before September 20. when Coach Chal
mers will arrive In the city to take charge
None oir't'he other Iowa colleges have as
early an opening aa Ames and when any
of them attempt to observe the nilea
sdopted by the western conference they
will plav under a heavy dlaadvantage. Doc
Pell wlil not begin working with his war
horses ever at Drake university for two
weeks yet and Coach Fisher of Grlnnell
will do all of his work on paper up to
that time. Ames will have a much heavier
schedule than Iowa this year on account
of the fact that they will full to observe
the flve-iarn. regulation. While Ames
Is In no way bound lo do so It Is believed
that Rlstlne will continue his policy
sdopted last year or keening freshmen out
of the game. Tha schedule as announced

CURES
o BLOOD P0IS0II
The first outward pign of Contagions Mood Poison is untall Bore ot
blister. As the poisonous virus becomes more firmly entrenched in the Mood
a red eruption appears on the body, the mouth and throat ulcerate, the haif
begins to come out, glands in the neck and groin swell, copper-colored spots
appear on the breast, back, etc., and the unfortunate victim finds himstll
diseased from head to foot. Mercury and potash do not cure Contagious
Blood Poison j they shut the disease up in the system and remove the out
ward symptoms for awhile, but when the treatment is left off thcUouble
returns. Then the system being weakened from the action of these strong
minerals the disease makes more rapid headway than before S S. S. is the
antidote for Contagious Elood Foison. It cures permanently and certainly
by going down into tltc blood and removing every vestige of the virus. It
is free from all minerals,, and while purifying the blood it builJs up the entire
83stem by its fine tonic effects. S. S. S. destroys every particle of the poison
and removes all danger of transmitting it to others. S. S. S. cures Con
tagious Blood Poison because it is a perfect blood purifier. Book with
Instructions for self treatment and anv medical advice free.
