Harry MeNeeley was In his finest fettle and that was tin enough to win an eleven Inning contest from Stimmell and tho Piieblo team at Vinton street park Wd nesday afternoon by the score of 2 to 1.' NcNeeley pitched . magnificent ball, but seven, hits being made off his delivery. while ho 'struck out two and walked but three. Not a hit was made until the fifth Inning, but In the eighth they bunched three with a sacrifice and tied the score. OmahA having made one In the fifth Inning. The battle then waged until the last half of tho eleven,' when Pa's Colt scored one with two tout and. the fans went hone, satlrfled they had seen a real ball game, for the Rdurke family had played per fectly and Pueblo had make but two wahbltB,, neither of which counted In the scoring. Welch and Basscjr were the star actors at the. bat and although Welch made three safe ones, one of which was a double, none. had anything to do With the scoring. Autrey was on hand as usual with tho hit which Drought . In the first run and Baasey'a double was responsible for the run which won the game. Runkle was on first 'and took eighteen chances without a mlscue, while Herman Long played short In his old time form and gobbled eleven chances. Elwert made the star fielding play of the day, when he grabbed a hot grounder off third and got Autrey at first. The crowd was-a regular St. Joe crowd, with a very small;; sprinkling of people. Howard '.Tallies First. Howard made the first run by starting the fifth Inning with a clean single. After Long and McNeeley had gone, down with popup. Bender hit a safe one right through Stimmell and Autrey put another In the same place, on which Howard came home. Pueblo made Its only run In the eighth Inning. Cook and McGllvray opened Out with singles and Bader sacrificed them on a base. Melcholr bunted the ball to Mc Neeley, but Cook crossed the plate before Mac could get the. ball home. Outside of that inning McNeeley had the Puebs at his mercy,': The first two men up In the first Inning' were walked and after that he steadied down and had things an his own way.-, For Omaha Baasey opened out the eleven Inning with a double to the left . field fence, and was sacrificed to third by Runkle. Stimmell was afraid of Howard and purposely passed him to first, the only member of the Rourke family to be 'given a gift all day. Long was next to bat and although the fans called ' for Dolan, Herman thought he could do the business and he did. He hit a grounder to Bader and the best Bader could do was to throw to first and let Bassey come home and the game was over. The ball team will be away from home until September ' IB.' . Score : ' . CLOTHIER IS TENNIS CHAMPION Philadelphia Man Defeats Lnst Year's Title Holder in Straight Sets. NEWPORT. R. I., Aug. 29. The ease with which William J. Clothier of Philadelphia won the national lawn tennis championship from Deals C. Wright of Boston, last year's title holder, on the Casino courts today, was one of the surprises of the tennis year. A victory for Wright, or at lease a hard fought contest was anticipated, but that Clothier should win In straight sets, 6-3, 8-0, 8-4, was beyond the calculations of even the closest followers of the sport. Wright's playing was fifty per cent below tha form showed on the same court lust year, when he won the title from Holc.omue Ward. . On the other hand Clothier dis played a well balanced game, carefully planned and skillfully executed. At the net he was like a stone wall, against which Wright hammered In vain, unable to either go around or over It. Had Wright been able to put the force into his returns that he did last year, the result might have been different, perhaps, or the match extended to four or five sets. -,;, Clothier's play was entirely for Wright's baok hand. He frequently cauuht the last year's champion off his feet and the ball struck the court far out of reach. Ihc fact that Clothier scored forty-three pajmes or place shots, to nineteen for Wright, shows at once the superiority of the new champion's game. The errors were about the Tame ftfTy-slx for Clothier to fifty-nine for Wright. HARNESS ' RACING IN DlBttllK Dan Patch Paces aa Exhibition MlleN ta 11BH Flat.
