With two out, Dolan's corking (Initio to
right in the thirteenth Inning between
Omaha and Denver at Vinton street park
Saturday afternoon put an end to the most
exiting tm of ball played on the
ground thla year and won for Omaha In
the last half of the thirteenth by a acore
of S to 7.
The fame started out to be. a pitchers"
battle between Sawyer, Fa's new man,
and Wright, and neither aide was able to
core until the sixth Inning, when three
Ingles and a bane on balls gave Denver
three runs and forced Heniiaei Long to
take Bawyer from the box, utthough the
fana yelled for him to be lft In. The
mlahapi were not his fault entirely. Dolan
failed to connect with a foul ' tip which
would have put one of the Mountaineer
out and Davla gave Sawyer, the worst of
It on atrlkaa. Oondlng missed a ball which
Bawyer tossed to him and which let In a
run. But Herman thought ha had better
call Jin Mr. Dodge, who paused the flrat
man up and filled the bases, and then let
Zaltisky acore when Belden hit to Howard.
Wright truck out. That was four for
Denver, but Omaha had made one In the
previous inning, when Basaey walked, went
to second on Dolan's hit, the first aafc
one of the game, and came home when
I.awler went out from Donahue to Mo
Hale, and Dolan waa called out for run
ning out of line.
After Denver had secured a lead of
three In the sixth, making the score 4 to
1 In Its favor, Omaha mude two run,'
which left It one behind. Carter walked
and was forced at second by Howard. Per
rlng waa given a life by Donahue's futile
attempt to land on a hard grounder and
both cam home when Welch hit a hard
na beyond the reach of McHale for two
tack.
Dodge Marti Badly-
Dodge started off very badly In the aev
enth Inning. McHale hit him for a aafe
ona and ha hit Smith. Randall flew out
to Carter, each advanced a base and both
cam homo on Russell's drive to left for
a single. Zalusky struck out. That left
' the score to I In favor of Bill Everett.
Rasty Wright went tip In the eighth on
a balloon ascension which reminded the
fana of tha kind Pa'a pltchere have been
making of late. The way the Rourke
family went after him wa a caution. They
lambasted the ball all over the lot for
two - singles and three triples, which
brought home four runa before Everett
called upon Mr. Paige, who waa consider
ably better.
McNeeley had been called In to bat for
Dodge and ha led off with a single and
Carter flew out to Belden. Howard hit
the bell clear to the middle field fence
and McNeeley had' scored and he waa
perched on third before It waa returned.
Perrlng followed with another triple and
then Welch brought Perrlng home with a
single ' to right.- Bassey kept the good
work going by slamming the ball down the
right foul line for a triple which brought
Welch home. That was the end of Wright
nd h was "sent to the stable," aa Dona
hue atld of Sawyer when he retired. When
Paige had warmed up Dolan hit to Paige,
who- caught Baasey between third and
borne. The Rourkes were one to the good.
Dester Tlea the Score.
.Denver tied the score In the ninth Inning,
when Randall walked on four wide ones,
after Smith had gone out from Howard to
Dolan. Russell hit for a double to right,
which put Randall on third. As no one
was on first and Zalusky Is a hard hitter
the council of war decided to pass Zalusky,
nd this waa done. Reddlck hit to Me
Keeley, who threw home in time to catch
Randall, and the bases were filled with
two out. Donahue was paased, which
forced in the run that tied the score.
The contest then turned Into a pitchers
battle between McNeeley and Paige, with
neither side showing any evidence of
acorlng until the thirteenth Inning, when
Perrlng led off with a single. Welch went
out. to McHale and Perrlng landed on sec
ond. Baasey atruck out. and the whole
hope of the fana waa centered In Joe
Dolan.' Ha waa equal to the emergency,
for ha hit the ball between the pitcher and

AVERAGES OF THE OMAHA TEAM
Week's Work Ip to Staadard of the
Reason aad 4taltc Knronraeinir.
Ist week waa a atrenuoua one for the
athlete wearing the Omaha uniform. To
start with, they were opposed to the only
real pitchers they are called on to encoun
ter during their awing around the circle,
these being Minor, Stimmell, Miller, .Man
ske. K.ngle and Paige, and that they were
able to hold the batting figures up to
where they have had them or the last
few weeka la most creditable. The field
ing ahowa some Improvement, and the lact
that t orn and Dodge both went through
their gamea without the customary' ascen
sion is a good sign. The rest of the bunch
is doing quite well, although Perring and
Ponding were the only regulars who really
swelled their hitting averages during the
week. Tha figures for the season are:

COMMY MAY CALL O DES MOIMES
Old Roman and Cincinnati Said to Be
After Players.
AVhn Mike Cantlllon was here the other
d;i' with his Des Moines team he showed
telegrams from his brother. Joe In Mil
waukee, urging him not to close any deals
for the sale of a single Des Molnea player
until he heard from him (Joel by letter.
JoefSuld "Commy may want them," and
that a representative of the Cincinnati club
was then on the road to open negollatlona
with Mike.
There is little doubt If Comlskey wants
any of the Des Moines men he can have
first choice, for there Is an -undisputed
alliance between the Old Human and the
Cantillons. the same aa there la between
Ducky Holmes and Comlskey, and It Is
probably this relation that brings Ducky
Holmea and Mike C'antillon Iniw such sweet
harmony In WcKtern league at.'alrs, by the
way. Indeed, . Ducky as good as said so
at the time he and Carney made such a
big-to-do- alout standing with Kourke
against Cantillonisin. Ducky, It will be
recalled, said at lust that "Commv" had
made u call on him In behalf of Canilllon
and he couldn't go back on Ills old boss.
But aa to the Dea Moines team: Can
tlllon certainly has some material that
ought to strengthen a big league club.
Babe Towne, Welday, Caffyn and Miller
are the boys. CafTyn probably would be
the most desirable, but It ia a mighty close
run between hlm and Welday Welday, by
the way. whom Omaha had once and
turned loose. There doesn't seem to be
the same tall scramble of big league teams
over Brother Krhlpke this year as last.
Of course, the popular feeling has been
that Hchip's evident decline Is due to his
lack of sympathy, his total dissatisfaction
with the company he is in. He had a bad
bunch passed over his way, but at that he,
personally, has not been the one to ad
vertise his discontent. Schlpke Is still a
ball player with It all and Is still a voung
ster, and In all probability will, whether
next year or not, land on a major league
team.
