MORE RAIN COULD BE USED
Molstnre Safflclent la Moat Places, bat
Wonld Be Acceptable la
Others.
The crop, soil and weather report of
the Burlington for the week ending July
21 shows that rain practically covered the
entire state ot Nebraska. The reports
still indicate, however, there are several
places on lines northwest of Aurora where
more rain would be acceptable. There Is
also a decidedly dry streak between Mc
Cook and Benkleman, on the main line,
although there has been plenty of rain
on the Imperial branch. With the two
exceptions mentioned the soil is generally
in good condition. The government report
shows that, based on an average of 137
stations, the rainfall In Nebraska for June
was 2.70 inches. This Is considered by
the Agricultural department ot the gov
ernment to be 1.19 Inches below normal;
that Is to say, the normal rainfall for
June the state over Is considered to be
$.89 inches. '
Reports concerning the wheat crop have
not been quite as favorable as present
conditions seem to Justify. Not a great
deal of threshing was done during the
week, but wherever threshing has been
done the yield proved better than ex
pected. On the Kansas branch of the Mc
Cook division the crop will average bet
ter than half a crop. Between McCook
and Benkleman the crop on the main line
is light. Elsewhere on the McCook di
vision the yield will run from fifteen to
forty bushels, the quality being good.
On the Lincoln division threshing for the
week shows a yield ranging from twenty
to forty bushels per acre. An average
yield, based on reports from nine stations,
shows a yield of thirty-two bushels per
acre. On the Wymore division present
reports indicate a yield of fifteen to thirty-five
bushels per acre, as per previous
reports.
The oats crop is generally better than
anticipated and probably will average bet
ter than half a crop In the Nebraska dis
trict. The quality la first-class. Little
spring grain is raised in this district, ex
cept oats.
Corn did fairly well, but the nights were
too cool for rapid growth. In a general
way the outlook for a good corn crog Is
favorable.
The potato crop does not cut much of
a figure In the district. Indications seem
to be for an average yield sod good qual
ity. Prospects continue good for applee.
The peach crop Is much better than an
ticipated. Oood peaches are said to be
selling in Otoe county at 7i cents per
bushel.
