ALFALFA TO KILL WEEDS
Solwtloa Proposed by Coasrllmas
Bedford to Drnld Hill Im
provement Clab.
It was weed night at the Druid Hill Im
provement club Monday night, when soma
thirty members talked of the weed nui
sance. Councilman Bedford, who was pres
ent, said the city had fourteen prisoners
out cutting weeds snd five men serving
notices on property owners to cut the
weeds on their premises. He said there
was a very simply remedy for the weed
nuisance that the improvement clubs should
all take up next year and that was alfalfa.
He said plant alfalfa on all vacant lots and
It would kill all the weeds.
J. C. Lindsay, member of the Board of
Education, gave the club assurance that
an annex would be had for the school to
accommodate the one section of the city
In which race suicide was not prevalent.
Mr. Bedford announced that the sewer
propositions were well under wsy and that
bids would be advertised for In the next
thirty days.
The use of the Inheritance road tax' to
pave the old military road from Florence
north to the county line received consid
erable attention and a committee of four
J. J. Smith. Jeff Bedford, J. C. Nickerson
and E. L. Plats was appointed to co-operate
with the people of Florence In secur
ing the realisation of the plan.
Bad sidewalks and defects In the charter
were subjects that were also discussed.
The club meets every other Monday even
ing at Thirtieth and Plnkney streets.
