other road to meet the cm of the Burling
ton of J cents per hundred on grain from
Xebianka points to On'aha. The Union Pa
cific aaid It will waiting to see the tariff
and If it waa as announced there would
be nothing else for that road to do but
meet the rate.
The Missouri Farlflc, which announced a
redurtion In the rate to southern points
of Ih cents, also tacked a proviso on the
end of Jhe announcement that "when neces
sary to make tranxfor from car to car
actual cost for this service with maximum
of i cent per Vi pounds will be absorbed
or paid by this company." This Is taken
to mean that the operating department
will .pay rent for actual movement at
the time of service and not on grain which
goes Into elevators and lays there. On
the other hand, It Is looked upon aa an
additional cut In the rate, making tha cut
on grain to tha south 1 cents this on tha
ground that all grain would be transferred
or elevated at St. Joseph or some other
point.
Pass rinnse of Rata Bill.
Tha pass clause In the new rate bill Is
causing all sorts of trouble. Many classes
of Individuals who have enjoyed passes
have not been Included In the list of those
entitled to the privileges, and these have
been making themselves heard on all aides.
Members of the house took the position
from tha start that the aenato had opened
us tha question of passes and they de
clined to Interfere or to aid In any way in
fixing a solution, leaving tha matter en
tirely in the hands of the senate. Members
of tha house do not regard the prohibitions
of tha section as very harsh and think the
railroads will be able to do about as they
please In tha matter of Issuing free trans
portation. Under tha new law officers of railroad
labor organisation are deprived of free
transportation, which they have heretofore

The committee of engineers and superin
tendents, to which was referred the matter
of the changes at Union station, met In
Superintendent Farks- office at 10 o'clock
Monday to consider the plans which had
been prepared for the changes. The com
mittee reported progress and will hold an
other meeting scon. The plans contem
plate the addition of seven passenger tracks
and the extenrilon of tha sheds to cover
these. An emigrant station also Is n con
templation, as well aa a separate shed for
the handling of the milk and cream supply
which has grown to such enormous propor

Representatives of the Commercial club
of Floux City called on the Burlington of
flcialri In Chicago Saturday and had a
promise of a tariff on merchandise which
will be entirely satisfactory to that city
and at the same time will give no(offense
to the Omaha Jobbers. The new tariff
was asked because of the new Ashland
cut-off, which thows open new territory
to the Jobbers of Sioux City. They were
given the same rates as Omaha Jobbers
Into certain Burlington territory, which
will enlarge tha scope of their business
Just that much.

a. in. and 8:30 p. in., and tickets will ba
good on any train leaving Clear Luke
Monday. Tna night Irani out of Omaha
will have a tourist sleeper which will
leave Clear Lake, returning Sunday night.
