HOW ORDER HELPS COUNTY
Collection of Fees la , Advance . by
Officers Shows Excess la
ths Food.
The benefits derived by ths taxpayers
from the recent order of the county com
missioners requiring county officers to col
lect fees in advance Is shown In the report
just made by County Judge Leslie to th
commissioners covering; the first six months
of the year. The report shows an excess of
collections over expenditures In the office
of $2,335.78 for the six months. Last year
the excess for the corresponding; period
was 3542.51. The usual amount of excess
fees paid by the office heretofore has been
from $700 to $1,009 a yesr.
Judge Leslie ascribes a part of th in
crease to an increase In business, but th
larger part of it he declares is due to' ths
fact the fees are collected in advance.
Under all previous county Judges there
have been' several thousands of dollars In
uncollected fees.
Inheritance taxes to the amount of about
$'.5,000 have been collected up to July I by
the county judge's office and a number of
estates have not paid yet. Some ot these
are Involved in litigation so that ths ap
praisement cannot be made until suits In
court Sre decided. In others protests hav
been made of ths amount of the appraise
ment and the taxes will not be paid until
the protests are decided. The greater part
of the money received came from ths
Frank Murphy estate, which paid $16,0j0.
The E. W. Nosh estats paid about $13,001
Other estates have pal- as follows: St
A. D. Balcomba, $06.22; Roxena Kendall,
$42.50; Charlotte K. Turlfer, $237.64; Samuel
Relchenberg, $142. IL The Interest on de
layed payments wtll bring the total up to
$06,000.

said E. P. Berryman of ths Lee-Olass-Andreeson

has been shipped from the Omaha hardware

companies are stringing wire all over the
northern, western 'and ' southwestern part
of Nebraska, and the aggregate operations
sre rapidly Increasing In scope. We have
sent 32.000 pounds of wire t one com

three months, and that means a good many
miles of wire when you consider that it
runs only 160 pounds to ths mils. South
