OMAHA, June . 190.
Wheat close! Ho lower than yesterday,

Weather In the northwest wss more
favorable and the sky In the southwest
was clear. Opening prlees were a shads
lower, and the market held steady with
very little change until Jonea laaued a
rrop report. - He estimated the winter
wheat rrop. at 420,000.000 bushels. The
bulls were disappointed, and the market
turned weak. At the low point there wa
rim Buying, ana as tne trade waa ngnt,
f 'rices recovered a portion of the loss, cios
ng VQ down. Numerous reports of red
ruat came from the northwest. Receipts
were moderate and the caeh demand slow.
Returns from threshing la the southwest
indlrste good yield.
Corn was weak, under the Influence Of
Irtoal weather throughout- the belt. July
declined ka and distant months He Re
ceipts were moderate and caeh demand
slow. Shorts covered yesterday and did
not lend their support to the market today.
There was no local trade In oats. Chicago

Rankin srnds out the following from C.
H. Thornton of Duluth: "Regarding red
rust, my Mr. Fearer mentions It from sev
eral plaeea, but seems to think a few days
of dry weather will correct all the trouble.
The ominous features of his correspondence
Is that when he waa In the country for tie
. two years ago evjry letter from the middle
.of June forward mentioned red rust, and
all of the territory so mentioned was after
ward affected by black rust."

NEW YORK. June 28. Prices of stocks
moved In a feverish and uncertain manner
today. This was owing clearly to the Isrge
extent to which the short Interest hsd been
built up in the course of the rspld decline
In prices snd the heavy liquidation of the
last few days. The extent to which this
liquidation hss gone and the effective relief
thus secured serve to mske the short Inter
est uneasy lest a sudden turn In the course
of the market might be Imminent. The
liquidation waa continued In large volume
In the earlv part of the day. But the esgei
ness of bears to secure their profits and
their precipitate rush to buy for this pur
pose caused extensive recoveries In prices.
From the one extreme of the day to the
other the oscillation of prices therefore wss
violent and the extreme swing was cut up
by numerous smaller vibrations reflecting
the uncertain state of mind of the profes
sional operators who were attempting to
follow the market.
News developments ot immediate bearing
on values were not Important and the
movement of the msrket was the result
of general conditions, sa for some time past.
Yesterdav'B half demoralised selling and
unsupported weakness had the Inevitable
effect of Inducing lower calls upon custom
ers or commission houses tor aanmonai
margins and commission houxes were re
Dorted ss comnlainina that a large propor
tion of these requests brought back Instruc
tions to sell the stocks and close out the
accounts Rome of the Important pools
were supposed also to be further lightening
their loads. Numerous smaller pools whlcu
were committed to attempts to control the
market for minor Industrial stocks were
enid to be having trouble in realising on
their linldlnss. offers of small parcels in
some cases limllng sbsolutely no bid In the
msrket. The fact that the most spectacular
operations on the bear side of the market
hsd ventured to flx definitely today as the
date for a panicky outbreak In tne marnci
made the uncovered bears eager to avail
themselves of what wss thus made to
annear a criMis In the declining tendency
This disposition wss the more pronounced
on account of the failure to appear of the
heralded culmination which wss to be
exploded In disastrous effect upon values.
Conditions In the money market were
unchanged, rates continued to work closer
with the approach of the July settlements.
The call loan rate got above 4 per cent
earlv In the 1hv. The feature In the time
loan market was the demsnd which sprang
up for accommodation for the shorter
periods as compared with the almost ex
clusive desire to extend borrowing over
the end of the year which has been In evi
dence for some time. Sixty day loans on
Industrial collateral were made at 6 per
cent. This wss the natural consequence
of the hardening tendency In the call loan
market. Foreign exchange continued ' to
decline In response to the same conditions
and it was said that gold could be engaged
in London at a profit for Import to New
York if anv sunulv were available there.
No arrivals are expected In London until
next week, when It is Deneved engage
menta will be made for New York account.
It Is to be noticed, however, thst the day s
sharp drop In sterling exchange at Pnris
brines that center Into the competlon for
London's available gold. The expected
early adjournment of congress which Is
hoped ror ry stoca maritet tnnis was given
some credit for the rallying tendency In
the market. Prices were well sustained
during the latter part of the day and some
striking gains were established In the
mercurial speculative favorites. There was

SHEEP As usual just previous to July
4, there was a very good demand for holi
day spring Ismbs ana good to choice stuff
sold up to (S.K-B8 !. the highest prices paid
In some time st this point, ji might be aodi-d
that they were the beat that havs b.o
seen here of late and the market could be
quoted on that kind as lbQJoc higher. On
the other hand common to medium SDring
lambs were slow and a little lower. Shorn
lambs wsre lust about steady.
Tha wire edge seems to be gone from the
ewe market anj ths trade was slow snd
16j2ic lower then the high point the first
of the week. The reason Is very easy to
discover Ewes have been selling at this
point, owing to tha light rnxipis, way out
of Uae wUA eeeiero markets. Oood lo
