CHICAGO. June II. Additional rain
throughout the central weet caused re
newed weakness In the local grain market
today. At the close wheat tor the July
rtelnery was off Vic. Corn was down
lc Oats showed a loss of TtQlc, and
provisions were 2 H 4? 10c lower.
Trading In the wheat pit was quiet for
the greater part of the day. In the early
part of the session there waa a fair de
mand for wheat by ehorta and this, meet
ing with only light offerings caused firm
feeling In the market. The reports of gen
eral rains tn Iowa, Missouri and the Ohio
river valley, which cauaed a break In oats
and corn, weakened the wheat market In
sympathy. Home reports of damage were
received, but they did not have the effect
which they might have exerted prior to
the rslns of the last two-days. The mar-
ket dosed easy. July opened a shade lower
to erve higher at s2'c to 83 "Ac, sold

cago reported receipts of 241 cars against

Sentiment In the corn pit waa extremely
brtHh all day and local longs sold freely.
The causes of the weakness were many,
being wet weather In the chief corn pro
ducing rtetes, lower cables, Increase! local
receipts, large primary receipts, liberal ac
ceptances from the country and an In
crease In the world's risible snpplv. Tha
market closed weak with prices near the
loweat point of the day. July opened
c lower at H'c to I2VC aold off to
Slic and closed at 51 He. Ixical receipts
were 66 cars, with III care of contrvt
grade.
There waa much realising In the oats pit

Local receipts were 240 rare.
Provisions were weak on selling by local

SHARP ADVANCE IN PENNSYLVANIA
Announcement of Completion of Paris
La n Cnnaes Rask to fay
CloslnsT Ton 4s
Firm.
NEW TORK. June IS There waa a
suhstsntisl recovery In the prices of stock
today from the downward course which
wss pursued through the week and which
wss tarried over lmo yesterdays marset.
The tendency towards recovery was per
ceptible already In yesterday's tracing
until It was overcome by the outbreak of
selling In Pennsylvania. The decline wss
thus loreed beyond Its limits In a msr.ner
and the rebound today wss correspond
ingly sharp. This was particularly ao In
IVnnsylvsnla Itself 'i he fact 01 uim sharp
break yesterday In this stock while th
final steps In closing the contract for
the plni-lns of the $50,000,000 loan In Paris
wte being actually taken, offers some
thing o"' a mystery. The rush to buy the
at I: this morning on the official an
noumement of the terms of the loan In
dicated a decided misapprehension on the
put ol many of the sellers yesterday. It
vss th eager rush to buy part of this
c'nse that caused the wldespresd Interest
In opi nlng quotations of the stock which
iurrlc-1 It up to as high as 183. This price
i cr!y momentarilv held and was not
lou'-heri again during the dsy. The Penn
sylvania loan operation, however, wss a
itotig tt.fluence In the whole market, not
tvltl.xiendlng the fact that the negotia
tions and Its probable successful Issue have
h-Mi known and discussed for several
wcfks. The Importance of this new open
ing for securing capital for American en
terprises makes a special appeal to senti
ment at tn, time owing to the large re
t,i'remer.t of that chsracter to be met
msny of the great railroad systems of
the country.
The operstlon has an Important bearing
also on the Immediate money situation
owlirg to the large borrowings In foreign
money msrkets made for New York's ben
efit In the last few months and which
are maturing constantly at the present
time. Various rumors were current today
of Intended recourse to foreign money
msrkets for several other Important rail
road systems which were In need of lsrge
sums of capital to carry out protected
improvements. The effect of the breaking
of the drouth In the winter wheat region
had some belated effect In today's market,
these having been offset yesterday by the
contrary Influence of the weakness In
Pennsylvania. Today's market was unset
tled at times by the violent slump In Inter
borough Metropolitan, consequent upon
the withdrawing of the peg which has
been Inserted in that stick at 60 since the
reorgsuizatlon ulan went Into effect. The
abandonment of sunnort was the occasion
of a busy discussion of its probable
reason. The Moods of stock wnien tne
supporters were obliged to take yesterday
at 60 offered a sufficient superficial ex
planation for the break. Where the large
amount of stock came from, however, and
the terms of the supposed pool agreement
to withhold It from the mttrket formed
the subject of the day's business gossip
regarding the movement. The general
market succeeded tn throwing off the In
fluence of this diversion.
The trading became Intensely dull at the
high level but prices were pretty well
maintained with the sustaining influence
of the special strength In BulHmore
Ohio. Positive assertions were made of
the prospect of an Immediate Increase In
the dividend rate on this stock. Other
wise the principal strength or tne aay was
shown In the same speculative favorites
as ror some time, conditions in tne iocsi
money market were hut little changed.
Rates for. time loans for the shorter per
iods were called slightly easier, but v
strongly held for the longer periods. The
continued decline In foreign exchange wss
attributed to the supply of bills asralnst
I'arls subscriptions for the Pennsylvania

Wool Market.
BOSTON, June 19. WOOL Any hope of
activity In the market seems to have little
foundation, to Judge from present Indica
tions. For lie l-a the trellne. h.. K..n
Irernely quiet owing to an apparent Inclins-
tlon on the part of both dealers o..d man-
utacturers to hold back. Ixcal buvers feel
that the reported lack or stock In the west
is largely a fiction, while the dealer main
tain that the effort of the buvers to
cheapen goods by refusing to trade has
been carried to the extreme. Territory
wools are dull. New medium half bloods
are priced at 28c, thr-e-elghts at 30c and
scoured st SSOc. Pulled wools are fea

CAT'1'L.E The receipts of cattle thla
morning were considerably larger thar.
yesterday, 171 cars being reported In tha
morning when tha market opened. Still
the receipts were small for a Tuesday,
the run one week ago having been 26.
cars and two weeks ago 168 cars. The
market aa a whole did not uow . very
much change.
There was a fair demand for destrabl
sinus or neer steers Since tills morning
fnd although the trade opened rather lata
! 11 ,T" viasnt that pack
ers hsd use tor
quite a good many desirable killers. The
mar Ket on cattle answering to that de
scription waa just about steady with yes
terdev, there being very little change In
any direction. The less desirable grades
were a little slow and the tendency was
to besr down on them to some extent.
Still they wer not very much different
from yesterday.
Desirable cow and heifers, that Is, dry
lot stuff was In very light supplv and for
that reason sold readily at luliy steady
of strong prices. The fact Is that so flttl'a
dry lot butcher stock Is coming that any
thing desirable along that line command
good prices every dsy. On the other hand
fines cows and heifers continue slow and
weak. It being very hard some dsyt to
mtve them at all.
There were no stockers or feeder of
snj consequence in th yard and. few
wanted, the demand being comparatively
light. The fact Is there Is very little
change In the feeder situation from day
tn dby.
