CATTLE It wss a holiday tn th cattle
market aa usual on a Saturday, there De
Ing nothing or importance on sate, rvr
the week the receipts of cattle hav not
differed very much so- far as numbers ate
concerned from last week or from a year
ago. The quality of the cattle coming
forward at th present time Is good n
an aversge, there being plenty of very. Well
nnisnea beeves on ssie most aays.
During tne first two days 01 tne -week
beef steers gradually eased off, the market
on both Monday ana rueaaay being quoted
lower. During the remainder of the week
very little change waa noted, th trade
being quoted as steady rrom day to day.
As a matter of fact the demand has
been largely for the better grade and
they re at the close of the week very
little dlffenent If any from what they were
a week ago. On the other hand the com
mon to medium kinds, that Is cattle aell
lng under ti.00 are somewhat lower than
a week ago. The decline, however, has
not . been very heavy and It might ew
enough to calf it lOo lower for' the week
on that kind of cattle.
Cows and heifers of good quality, that
Is fsd stock, have been good sellers ill
th week. - Owing to the light receipt
they have shown very little change ami
are selling now. about where they were
laat week. Grassy stock on tne other nana
ud everything that might be graded ua
common or on the canuer order haa been
steadily working to a lower basis. The de
cline on that Kino is su or 000 aa com
pared with ten daya or two weeka ago.
This moans that the market on tanners
and all common cowa and heifers Is At
the low point of the season to date.
The stocker and feeder market has been
no good tbla week. Dry weather In the
country and a none too encouraging fat
cattle market have combined to make the
country a very slack buyer of stockers
and feeders, with the result that the bot
tom has fallen out of the market. Re
ceipts on most daya of the week were light
and yet the cattle accumulated In the
hand ef speculators and are at th close
of the week 60c lower thai) a week or ten
days ago. It takes extremely good catiM
to bring tl.Od, while a good many verv
decent or pretty good rattle have sold
ccnsldersbly below that figure. The feel
Ing on the market Is very weak and no
one Is looking for any Improvement In
prices at the present time.

HOGS Hogs opened a little slow t!i
n.ornlng with packers generally bidding
only steady pricea. It was very apparent,
however, that they wanted the hoga a 11, 1
when seller did not cut loo at the
prloes offered they raiaed their bids an I
market became active at an advance of
t4jc over yesterday. The hogs sold largely
at tt.1548 40 as against tt.12 it t It yes
terday. - Most everything changed hsn'ls
esrly In the forenoon, but, as Is very apt
ta be the case when the market Is higher,
tt slowed 'up a little on the close.
It will be noted from the tsble of re
relpts at head of rolumn that arrival
this week hsv been very much larger
than last week as well as showing 4
hesvy gsln over a year ago. Through the
advantage given them by the large re
celpta packers were sble to bear the mar
ket during the Oral half of the week. Al
though prices were a little stronger on
Mondsy. The low point wss touched on
Wednesday when the hogs seld almost 10.
lower on an average than at th close of
the prevloua week. During the laat two
days ef the week the market recovered
all th loss, closing a shsd higher than
one week ago.
