NEW YORK. June 11. Price movements
In today's market were dull and narrow
snd were confined almost entirely to a mere
hsndful of the active speculative Issues,
particularly St. Paul. There has been a
great deal of gossip recently regarding the
financing of the company's proposed
Paclflo coast' extension. The "news has
been alternately good and bad, today's be
ing of a favorable chsrscter, with bin's
of vsiuable "rights." Diligent Inquiry fslled
to disclose any warrant for these reports,
which were Industriously circulated by a
clique of professional operators. In fact,
the market was again completely domin
ated by this element, though the buying of
St. Paul, Union Pacific and Amalgamated
Copper was of the sort vaguely described
aa "good.' The tendency of the list, how.
ever, was heavy. In spite of the support
given to the issues named.
The general disposition f the profes
sional traders to reduce their commitments
pending the publication of the govern
ment's monthly crop report, was doubtless
largely responsible for the smallneee of the
day's business. Interest In the repcrt wss
unusually keen, particularly as to winter
and spring wheat, though advance reports
from the middle snd southwestern states
were generally optimistic. The same wss
true of other advices from the remote sec
tions. Railwsy officials reported a general
Increase of tonnage, while the recelpta of
cereals at Chicago for the last week were
greatly In excess of the ssme week last
year. Reason for the strength for the cop
per shares was found In the report of the
Amalgamated Copper company's subttdtarv
concern, which showed an Increase In net
earnings for the year ended June 1 of over
35.ono.0110. f this sum Anaconda r ntrtbuted
about 3.1,5(10.000.
The official crop conditions were posted
In the Isst hour and seemed sufficiently
favorable to bring about a strong close.
The estimated spring wheat acreage Is In
excess of last year's for June, while winter
wheat is conditioned at 83 as of June 1,
compared with 01 last month, 85.6 In June
of last year and 77.7 In June, 1904. In addi
tion to St. Paul, which made a net gain of
3 points, Delaware & Hudson advanced 64
and Union Pacific IS. The local money
outlook was reassuring, though foreign ex
change was still high. Call loans were
made below 3 per cent, though that figure
was the prevailing rate of the day. Over
year money continued In strong demand and
some long time loans covering that period
were made at 6 per cent on high class
collateral. Further large transfers of cur
rency were received at the aubtreaaury
from San Francisco, and Washington sd
vlces indicate even larger returns from the
coast before the week's end. The foreign
markets were without Influence here, Lon
don being engrossed with Its preparations
for the fortnightly settlement. Arbitrage
houses were early buyers of St. Paul and
Union Pacific and were reported to have
aold on the advance.
Bonds were Irregular. Total sale, par
value, $2,300,000. l'nlted Statea bonds were
all unchanged on call.

CATTLE The week started out with o
very light run of cattle, only about 116
cara being reported In as Against 186 cars
one week ago.
. The trade In beef steers lacked snap And
life, being generally a little slow and if
anything inclined to drag. Some aellors
who happened to have Just what a buyer
needed to fill some special order thought
that they got Just about steady prices. On
the other hand there were others who re
ported that they could do as well as last
week. Perhaps the market could be beat
described as steady to lower aa well as
dull.
Cows and heifers were In light receipt
and good demand and the offerings of all
desirable kinds changed hands in good
season ln the morning. The prices paid
showed no material change In any direc
tion, being Just about the same as those
which prevailed at the close of last week.
The supply of stockers and feeders was
limited mostly to a few odds and ends
which did not sell materially different
from the close of laat week, it must be
borne In mind, however, that they are de
cidedly lower than ten days ago.

SHEEP Aside from a small drive-In
the market waa bare of supplies this
morning and the big sheep barn was de
serted. The drlve-lu conslstod of a few
decent lamba, which sold at $(.25, and
some ewes at $6.16. These prices looked
strong and the feeling waa that anything
good would bring good strong prices. Ac
cording to all reports the supply of sheep
and lambs In thla territory Is pretty well
exhausted and no one is looking for any
thing but small runa from now on. The
demand, however, continues very good and
the killers could use a good many more
than are coming or are liable to come.
