AUTHOR OF THE TIBBIES INTERVIEW Owifr of Indicator, PopnlUt Organ, mbllahed from World-Herald Office and Inspiration of Ita I Iterances. Gilbert M. Hitchcock, editor of the World-Herald- and cunuiuale for the senate and congress? urn the case may be, while pretending- to support "William Jennings Bryan through the columns of his paper, Is charged ' by some of his democratic brethren with plotting- a conspiracy calcu lated to defeat Bryan for the presidency. "Thomas 11. Tibbies, late candidate for Vice president on the populist ticket, re cently gave out an interview to the Asso ciated Press, saying a movement was on among the populista to put a separate ticket in tho field should Bryan get the demo cratic nomination," said a leading demo crat. "That interview came, not from Mr, Tlbhlea. but from Mr. Hitchcock. It was another of Mr. Hitchcock's secret blowa. and Tibbies was simply his mouthpiece. Tibbies, you know, la the editor of the - Indicator published In the World-Herald office and bearing tre Imprint of the World Publishing company. Isn't that enough' "Hitchcock cannot forget the 'sting of Ingratitude,' as lie chose to term Mr. Bryan" action In urging Governor Poynler to appoint a tried and true statesman. W. V. Alien, Instead of Hitchcock, as an aspir ing politician, to the vacant eeut in the Uuited Btatna senate. Jaaaa-Faced r'.dltor. "In the World-lrorald Hitchcock appears to bo for Bryan and occasionally pub lishes an article favorable to his candidacy for the presidency, Thtn he turns' light around and has Tibbies publish in Hitch cock's Indicator an attack on Bryan. Hitchcock stands sponsor for the indi cator.' Jle controls It absolutely and he Is responsible for the Interview given out by Tibbies. Hitchcock may think he Is play ing a mighty smooth game. He Is trying to make the democrats of Omaha think he is for Bryan In order to get Bryan strength In his race for the senate or for congress, while at the same time through tne indicator he la doing all he can, to stir up opposition to Bryan. Tibbies is merely the mouthpiece for Hitchcock, and there are enough democrats who know this to make mighty hard sledding for Hitch cock. Two years ago he opposed Bryan and tried to prevent a Bryan delegation from going to the national convention, and now, through Tibbies and the Indicator, he Is trying to create a sentiment against Bryan. "I know positively that Tibbies Is on the Hitchcock pay roll and he gets bis checks just like the other employes of the World- Herald. Hitchcock Is opposed to Bryan, but. in the World-Herald he cannot come out and say so, but he can have his em ploye, Tibbies, do the talking. It Is not generally known among democrats that Tibbies Is really employed by Hitchcock, but such is the case, nevertheless." Jane, tho Hostk for HoaUtb. .
