There la now considerable doubt a to
whether Guy R. Doty, the young man
from Juniata., Neb., part of whose clothing
wu found last Sunday near the river bank,
did commit aulclde by throwing hlmaelf
Into the Missouri river. A search of the
river bank In the vicinity of the place
where the clothing waa discovered failed
to reveal any footprlnta leading to the
water"a edge.

ceived a communication from J. W. Mur-

The district court grand Jury completed
Its deliberations for this term yesterday
morning, filed Its report, returning five
Indictments and was excused by Judge
Wheeler until the opening of the next term
of court on August 28.
Of the five Indictments only two were
made public yesterday, the parties named
In the others not being In custody.
One Indictment Is against. J. O'Hearn,
F. J. Moredick and P. C. Bainter, the
three I'nlon Pacific switchmen, on the
charge of breaking and entering a freight
car and stealing a case of whisky. The
men, who were out on 1300 bonds given
In police court, were rearrested and lodged
In the county Jail last evening. Their
bonds under the Indictment are placed at
8300 each. They expect to be able to
furnish them. ' .
Another Indictment was against Robert
Finlayson, alias Robert Harris, the Omaha
man, on the charge of stealing a bicycle
valued at $35, the property of John
Chambers of this city. Finlayson was In
the county Jnll awaiting the action of the
grand Jury. His bond under the Indict
ment Is placed at $.100.
The grand Jury failed to find Indictments
against Arthur Fegley and George ltl
mer charged with holding up and robbing
Rockwell Jewell, a butcher, on the
night of May 19, thla year. It also failed
to return an Indictment against W. H.
Pleper. the solicitor charged with insult
ing conduct towards Mrs. Minnie Oldaker
at the latter a residence on Benton street.
In its report on the Jails at Mtnden,
Underwood and Neola the grand Jury
found that those at Underwood and Neola
were In good condition, but that the one
In Mlnden needed replacing by a new
building, as It did not regard the present
one as safe or a "reasonably comfortable"
place In which to confine prisoners.

state flremens' tournament In Clinton, June

terday that the commencement exercises
at the School for the Deaf would be held
June 21 In place of June 26, In order that
