CONTRACTOR WAITING ON THE CURBING Rterkraea Arcvaad Exchange riaantaa; to Go la Forpe to the Kehraska Stock Growers' Conveatloa at Alllaaee. Loud complaints are ramlng from Mis souri avenue because the paving has not been begun on that street. It was pro posel at the last council meeting that a committee be appointed to push the paving, but It was discovered that the paving contract allows Murphy ninety days after the curbing is in position before he need begin the work. He says he will not begin the work nntll the curb Is properly laid. That is therefore the point where the work hangs fire. Hlghlaad Park Improvement Clab. At the special meeting of the Highland Park Improvement club, held Wednesday evening, there was an unusually large and representative attendance. The committee on F street grading was enlarged to in quire Into the legality of the grading pe tition now before the council. The com mittee on planting shade trees recom mended tha planting of trees in the parking three feet from the curb line, fifteen feet from the corners and thirty feet apart, except where trees are now planted, in which event new trees should be made to conform. A committee was appointed to appear before the council regarding having a sidewalk laid on the south side of U street between Twenty-seventh and Twenty tlKhth and to Inquire Into the laying of a cinder or brick walk on Twenty-seventh street from F to J, which was ordered by the council some time ago. In line with the action of the club at the last meeting Mr. Hunter of the Park board reported perma nent sidewalks ordered laid along the north and south ends of Highland park. The Twenty-flfth street proposition was taken hold of In earnest and Messrs, O'Neill Kiewlt, Sullivan, Powell, Copenharve and Gallagher appointed as a committee to find means for grading the street between A street and the Omaha boundary. This can only be accomplished by soliciting funds generally A committee was also appointed to wait on Mayor Hoctor In regard to the fares to be charged patrons of the proposed Fort Crook line, so that joint action may be taken towards having the 5-cen fare from points aouth of the city limits carry a pas senger Into South Omaha, to any central point, the second fare to be charged for the trip beyond. The same committee will pre sent to the mayor the objections of the club to giving to the new tlectrio line fran chises to streets ano alleys in the north western part of the city without adequate return, it being reported that the manage- ment contemplates the running of all trains direct to Omaha without atop In South Omaha.
