Strength of wheat at outside grain centers caused firmness In the local market, the May option closing with a net gain of 'ff-'4c. Corn showed very light change from the closing quotations of Saturday, Provisions were fraliVto higher. Favorable weather In the United States and an increase in the world's shipments for the week, the total movement being 10,. e32,000 bushels, agalnat 3,676,000 bushels for the preceding week, caused an easier feel ing at the opening. Trading, however, was of a small volume, many traders holding off on account of the government report, which will bo issued tomorrow. Before the end of the first hour the market had re gained most of the early loaa and through out the remainder of the session held firm at a slight advance. Advances In the price of wheat at Minneapolis and St. Louis were the chief factors for the high prices, al though the strength of corn exerted some Influence. The close was firm. The May delivery opened unchanged to a shade higher, at 77iH7Tc, sold off to T7Sc and then advanced to 7HVij"7KVy. The close waa at 78Ho. July ranged between 77j78o and closed with a gain of VftHa at 77c. Clear ancea of wheat and flour were equal to 137. 000 bushels. The amount on passage de creased (08,000 bushels and the visible sup til v decreased 146.000 bushels. Primary re ceipts were EU.0UO bushels, against 7B,000 bushels a year ago. Minneapolis, Duluth and Chicago reported receipts of 846 cars, against 6tl cars laat week and 3S3 cars a year ago. Trading In the corn pit was unusually ac tive. Early In the day the market was steady, but later an easier feeling developed on profit-taking. A sharp advance at Liver pool and wet weather In this country caused the early strength of the market. An official forecast of fair weather for to morrow throughout the principal corn- growing states had considerable Influence in bringing about tne reaction mat roiiowea. The market closed steady, with prices close to the final Quotations or Saturday. May opened feQHo higher, at 40j464c. sold off to 460 ana ciosea at wwio, icai receipts were ISA cars, with two cars of contract grade. Oats were firm all day because of small receipts and wet weather. Shorts were ac tive buyers early In the day, but later the demand beoame leas urgent. Cash bouses were the chief sellers. May opened a shade to ao higher, at IlVaSlV. and held within the opening range, the close being at 811,e. Local receipts were 135 cars. Provisions were firm on active buying by local packers, which was based on a report that stocks of lard In foreign countries were much depleted. At the close May f ork was tip 6c, at tlt tTH; lard was up lii JHc. at $8.674; ribs were Tfec higher, at ' Ss.7M4i8.76. Estimated receipts for tomorrow: Wheat. The accumulation of selling orders over the end of the week proved to be light and the pro fessional patty committed to the rise showed no sign of being shaken in its posi tion. The small offerings during the early part of the day wre well absorbed, and. while no disposition was shown to inau gurate an aggressive advance, a number of lending storks gave evidence of being supported. In Union Pacific the supervision of the stock seemed designed to hold It rigid, large supporting orders appearing about 1.VI, while a rlae In the rrire to l&tiV, brought out heavy selling, which was at tributed to Inside account. The action of this stock was fairly representative of the special policy observed in the general mar ketthat Is, to protect prices from damage while awaiting an amelioration of the money situation. Pennsylvania showed evi dence of support as well, but the Pennsyl vania convertible bonds or 1915 conttnuea to come on the market In a heavy stream. The proportion of beef cattle, however, waa not as large as has been the case dur ing the last two weeks. The reeling in nie yaras mis morning waa better, that la. everyone seemed to think that cattle ought to bring a little more money than laat week, out on tne other hund it was hard to got the advance. In some cases salesmen tuoua'il mat tntry did not sell their cattle any more than steady; on the other hand there were cases where the market looked higher. The trade as a whole might le described as steady to luc higher In spots. The movement was a little slow, but as there was no great number on sale, everything was finally cleaned ud In very decent season. The average quality of the cattle was not very good, but there were some good cnougn to bring 85.35. Cows and heifers or good auauty were In demand at prices that were generally a little stronger than those which prevailed t the clone Of laat week. Tne aavance. however, was not very marked and buyers did not seem any too willing to put on. Common and Inferior grades continue slow and dull the same as luxt week, there being very little demand for anything in the canner line. ... A considerable proportion or tne receipts this morning consisted of stockers and feeders, there being quite a showing of western hay feds. There were twelve cars of Wyonilngs In one string, which sold to a feeoer buyer at 11.60. Speculators and yard traders were pretty wen snia out at the close of last week anil hence were free buyers this morning to the extent that the most or tne cattle on saie soia in rea sonable season and at fully steady pricea Keprcscntatlve sales: BEEF STEERS. rr. 4 65 4 56 4 ) 4 M 4 70 4 70 4 70 4 70 4 70 4 70 4 75 4 M 4 85 4 85 4 K5 4 85 4 96 4 05 8 00 6 00 6 06 6 06 8 10 8 10 6 10 6 10 I t 6 35 6 60 3 60 8 60 3 60 3 65 3 to 1 60 8 65 8 76 3 76 3 78 3 75 3 76 3 76 3 75 3 75 3 90 3 90 8 o 8 M 3 90 4 UO 4 OS 4 00 4 00 4 00 4 00 4 10 4 15 4 15 4 25 4 30 3 M I el 400 4 00 4 00 4 m 4 00 4 4 25 4 25 4 36 4 ii No. Av. The hog sold very largely at I 38 36. as against 86.22Vt Saturday, which I means that the market today waa just about 2c tngner man tne citwe ot iusi week. A few losds sold up to 96.K74, ns sgalnst 86.3a, which was Saturday's top. The market was not particularly active at the advance but receipts being light were cleaned up In fair season. Shippers will understand that while light and heavy hoga are selling practically In the same notches, which accounts for everything selling at one price, that a wide distinction would be made agalnat thing rough, course or trashy. iny- No. 81... 61... 69... 78... 71... 39... 32... 88... As a matter of fact, however, fifteen cars of that num ber arrived Saturday nlaht and remained only long enough for feed, being forwarded tne same night, ur the number actually n the' barn this morning nineteen cars were consigned throurh and were not of fered for sale. In other winds. Instead of there being fifty-four cars on sale, as the receipts would Indicate, there were actually only twenty-five, which was very moderate tor a Monday. The market opened mther slow partly be cause of the somewhat limited demand and partly because sellers were holding for good firm prices. As a result while the movement was alow prices were fully steady, if anything strona on trood kinds of sheep. As high as 36.15 was paid for yearlings, which was more than anvthlnar of that kind brought last week. The mar ket closed slow and weaker. There were more cllDDed sheen here than any day previous.
