though trade was light throughout the day.
The strength In coarse grains had a beiietl
clal effect, as did reports of the sales of
Duluth No. 1 northern ,lo eastern lake
points. Cable were a shade lower. Tho
World' shipments for Monday estimated
at 10.uQ.0tv bushels. The niHiket has mown
a consistently good undertone under ad
verse conditions.
Corn was the strongest cereal on the floor,
advancing c for the May delivery, which,
was stronger relatively than either the July
or September. The gain I based entirely
on the immense cash business, both domes
tic and export, and on the liberal charter
for shipment at the opening of navigation.
This means that stock will decrease rap
idly. At the same time the country Is sell
ing absolutely nothing. Cash market wa
strong and V higher. The atuunre In corn,
ha only started, say leading trader, and .
we will seo materially better price.
Oat were strong on a fair trade, reflect
ing the strength In corn, also the Improve
ment In the cash situation. The domestlo

wa strong today and despite favorable
weather condition wheat wa firm ln sym
pathy. At the close wheat for May de
livery wa up Vc, corn showed a gain of
.7c, oats were He higher and provision
were from 10c to 14Vc higher.
The wheat market wa easy a the open
ing, because of continued favorable weailior
ln the northwest and southwest, which
Inspired moderate selling by pit traders.
Offering were readily taken by short and,
commission house and a rally followed.
With the exception of a alight reaction
toward the middle of the day the market.
Influenced by a sharp advance ln the price
of corn and the strength of cash wheat
at outside markets, remained firm. The
May option opened unchanged to a shade
lower at 77Vc to TiWai'i'a, sold off during
the session to 77(U TVio and closed firm
at 77,fr?7Ho, which was the highest point
of the day. The volume of trading on the
whole was small. July wheat sold between
77Vc and 77H77Vc and closed at 77M77Vic.
Clearances of wheat and flour were equal
to 182,000 bu. Primary recelpta were Stf.OOO
bu., compared with 2x1. wu a year ago.
Minneapolis, Duluth and Chicago reported
receipts of 284 cars, against 3W last week
and lts a year ago.
Trading in corn wa decidedly active and
the market wa strong from opening to
the close. There was a good general de
mand by commission house, cash interest
and short. The heavy sales which had
been made for shipment at the opening
of navigation, the light movement from
the farm and the prospect of a large de
crease ln local stock were the primary
causes of strength. Another Influential fac
tor wa an official forecast of wet weather
throughout the corn belt. The market
closed strong at the highest price of the
day. May opened a shade higher at 46V4c,
advanced to 4V,c and closed at 46Vc. Local
receipt were 17 cars, with one of contract
grade.
Price of oat were held ateady by the
trength of corn. A good class of buying
wa In evidence, short covering freely,
while long added to thlr line. May
opened a shad lower at 41 He, advanced to
8lHo' and closed at 3iyiUlc. Local re
ceipt were 173 car.
Provisions were firm all day, because of
an active demand by local packer, which
was based upon heavy shipment of meat
and lard for the week. Offering were light.
At the close May pork wa up 10c at
116 KVi. lard was 10120 higher at 13.4'if
474 and rib were Ktfl2Vc higher at 38. C
