HCKIS The hog market ortened this morn
ing at practically ateitdy prices and early
trade was reasonably active. The most of
the hoga sold In good season 011 tnal basis,
the bulk going at $t 26"' .' the same as
yesterday with a top at tn.ib.
Toward the close and alter nearly all of
the hogs had changed hands a weaker feel
ing was d'veloped. so that the market
wound up tilow and lower than the open
ing. It had been anticipated that the recelpta
would prove very light thla week on ac
count of the almost Imp.issable condition
of the country roads, so that It Is no sur
prise to the trade that receipts are running
somewhat lighter than la at week. The
only surprising feature Is that they should
really be as heavy aa they are.

CATTLE Receipts of cattle this morning
numbered 230 cars, which was about the
same number as ai rived here one week ago
and larger than the receipts of two weeks
ago. The market as a whole did not pre
sent any especially new features, the trade
as a general thing being tn air condition
with values not much different from those
which prevailed yesterday.
Beef steers were in llbentl receipt, but
there was also a good demand, so that
while the trade did not open especially ac
tlve there was during the forenoon a fair
movement of all the desirable kinds. As
to prices there waa no material change
from yesterday's figures. In fact the mar
ket might oe summed up as reasonably ac
tive at yeaterday'a prices.
Cows and heifers were in fair supply, and
as there was a orreapondlngly good de
mand the trade as a whole was In a good,
healthy condition. The offerings changed
hands In a fairly active manner and the
big bulk of the receipts was disposed of in
good season. Aa waa the caae with steers
there was no quotable change In Prices.
Uood stockers and feeders commanded
lust about the samo Dtloes aa yesterday
and day before. On the other hand there
seemed to be a little hesitation on the nart
of speculative buyers about taking 011 very
many of the-common to medium kinds.
Holders found it a little hard to dispose of
that kind to quite as good advantage as
early In the week, still the market was not
very nirrereni.

- BHEKH-Tpheen sid at strong prices and
lambs at about steady prices, al least thul
is the way the market opem-a and mat ta
the way such stmt as buyers wanted sold.
The general situation, however, remains
about the same from day to aay that is
the demand is somewhat limlteu as com
pared with the large receipts, and after
buyers have picked out as many loads as
they can use of tne more desirable aneep
and lambs, It becomes a difficult matter
to dispose of the remainder. It Is not so
much a matter of price, as Is of finding
some One to- buy and everyday toward the
close there la a struggle to clean up. Tins
gives the market a weak tone on tno close
nearly every day, aitnougii tne opening
may be quite brisk.
As noted yesterday there are some very
good heavy ewes o nthe export order com
ing forward at the present time, which arc
selling considerably belter than anytiuug
brought last week, but aa matter of fact
they are of very choice quality.
It will be noted that receipts at all mar
ket points are large with the result that
nearly all markets are in practically the
same condition It being a constant struggle
to get the mutton Into consumption na last
aa the sheep and lambs are coming for
ward. The receipts here this morning
were larger than any previous Wedrnsday
this month.
