Auditor Asks More Help.
The finance committee reported It would
bo impossible for the auditor's force to
make a thorough Investigation of tho ac
counts in tho sheriff's una district clerk's
offices and asked that Walter Wills and
James Ruan be appointed to do the work
at salaries of t"j a month. The board
concurred unanimously.
Tho controversy between the county and
'the cities of Omaha and South Omaha
regarding pay foe the boarding of prison
ers will be left to the committee on court
house and Jail to settle. The committee
was authorized to meet with committees
from the councils of the two cities and
came to a basis of settlement.' The county
has boarded a number of prisoners sent up
under the ordinances and has demanded
that It bo reimbursed by the cities. Tho
cities reply that they board a large num
ber of prisoners charged with offenses
under the statutes and these ought to off
set the county's bills. A suit was started
some time ago against the city of South
Omaha, but has not been pushed because
of the difficulty of 4hecklng up the records
to find out Just how mucin the county Is
entitled to. All those concerned appear
to dcslro a settlement without a lawsuit.
The, resolution was introduced by Mr.
Holomun.
A proposition from the Standard Bridge
company offering, in view of the fact that
the site of tho old, pier at the Elk City
hrldgo could not be cleared to permit the
use of a new tubular pier, to construct a
cement pier without extra cost te the
county, was accepted. This disposes of
tho controversy between the company and
tho commissioner over tne method of re
pairing the bridge.
Tho commissioners accepted an Invttation
of the visiting committee of the Juvenile
court to attend the meeting to be held
Sunday afternoon at the Orrlghton College
of T.sw, at which Judge Mack of Chicago
will bo tho principal ppenKer.
The net regular meeting of the board
will not be held until Saturday. March 31.

President If. H. Crofford's report showed
a prosperous linanrlal condition of the post
and a steady growth. The present mem
bership Is 4., a gain of ninety-six for the
year. The secretary-treasurer's report
showed all bills paid and a In) lance In the
treasury.
The post elected forty-nine delegates to
thn stata convention, which will bo held In
Omaha April 20 and 21. On official report
of tho death of Secretary R. F. Hodgln
and John Welshans. resolutions of condo
lence and sympathy were adopted. A re
port was heard from the committee on
arrangements for the state convention.
