Wheat reached tho lowwt price on the
crop today, May selling at Wc split. Tht
northwest crowd aold on liberal receipt,
accumulation of stock and poor raah de
mand, du to shutting down of mill.
Rtocks at Minneapolis Increased, 650.000
bushels for five day thla week. Predic
tion of rain In the aouthwest contributed
to the decline. Tho clone wa r. lower
and e split above the low point. TTi
cash market waa Ho lower. There wer
no cash aales.
Tho corn market wa adversely Influ
enced by tho weakness In wheat and by
poor cash demand. The cash market was
He lower. Rseetpt wer moderate and
general demand poor. Omaha firms report
better acceptances through the state last
nignt.
Oats felt the general weakness, and fell
tC. The range was small.
Clearances were 132,000 bushels wheat, 40,
on" bbls. flour, 457.000 bushels corn, 320,nno
Dusnels oats. Primary wheal receipts were
ws.ow bushel and shipments 2i2,tio bush
els, against receipts last jfai of 498,. 00
nusheis and shipments or a,GO0 bushels.
Corn receipts were 679,000 bushels and shlp-
. ments 8o5,oW bushels, against receipts last
year of 616.000 bushels and shipments of
827.O0O bushels.
Liverpool closed Hd higher to Vd lower
on wneat, and corn unchanged to d lower.
Argentina's surplus wheat at l33,uoo,fio
Dusnei. Argentina shipments this week
are estimated at 3.600.000 bushels.
Minneapolis sold 3o0,li0 bushels rash oats
for shipments. The seaboard sold 94.000
bushels wheat, 9n,fmn bushels corn, 60,000
bushels oats and 70.000 bushels hurley.
H. P. Watson of Minneapolis predicts
that May wheat In Chicago In likely to sell
at 70c. High rates for money, poor ch
demand, tho filling up of the flour trade
and shutting down of mills, form the basis
for his bearish views.
Flour trade for the week was reported
extremely dull. Minneapolis said sales of
flour lacked a good deal of being eciual to
the output, and mills were In lighter oper
ation. The Northwestern Miller says th
mills are not likely to make more than
30.000 barrels this week. For the same
week In 1905 the output was 6,166 barrels.

NEW YORK. March 1 Stocks started
toward recovery today after signs appeared
that the more urgent liquidation hail spent
Its force, put the continued evidence of
stringency In the money market discour
aged any ventures on tho long side of the
market and checked the recovery with re
current show of weakness from time to
time. Everything Indicated u continuing
Inroad upon the reserves of the clearing
house tmnks anil Increased the supposition
that the coming bank statement might
show the disappearance of the surplus uml
the establishment of a deficit In the legal
reserves. The subtreasury statement for
the day showed an addition of nearly
half a million of dollars to the week's loss
by the banks, bringing the total up to
$fi. 13.000. n was reported that Interior
banking Instructions were withdrawing
funds from New York on the express
movement also. There was deposited at
the sulitreasurv during the dav $aU0 for
telegraphic transfer to Cincinnati. The fall
in the New York exchange rate at Chi
cago for the day from l.i cents discount
to 25 cents discount indicated the pressure
upon New York for funds from that center.
Fart of the drain to the suhtreasurv ren.
resents requirements of Interior Instruc
tions. Internal revenue mvments heinz
paid In New York by drafts on the local
dervoslts of interior banks.
The report from Albany of an agreement
upon the proposed laws establishing trust
company reserves at 15 per cent, of which
ft per cent should he cash In hand. 5 per
cent caen on nennsil Hmi ll per cent in
designated securities pointed to nn early
requirement for additional accumulation
of cash in order to comply with this new
measure. Foreign exchange made an ad
ditional decline In response to the rising
rate for money here and recedlnir rates
abroad. Discount rates were npprrclablv
easier today both In London, Berlin and
Paris.
Yesterday's violent declines in stocks
brought in the usual orders this morning
to sell from holders who received notice
to furnish additional margin on speculativ
holdings. The conclusion of this selling
showed an over-extended short Interest In
the Mill railroads and local tractions. The
rtfusal of an annlleatlon to the state au
thorities to proceed aealnst the proposed
traction merger helped to frighten the
shorts In the local tractions. Lively re
bounds In those two groups helned to pull
the general level of tho market up to
about Inst night's closing. But the re
enverv was poorlv held. The Canadian Pa
clflc reported net earnings for January
three times as lare-e as for the same month
in the previous year, the Fries and the
Central Railway of Oeorgla twice as large
nnd the Chesaneake A Ohio an Increase to
the extent of 78 per cent. These showings
were unavailing, however, to Induce any
extra demand for these storks. The fluc
tuating tendency of the market continued
un to the closinar which was irregular.
Bonds- were heavv: total sales,. par value.
I2.510.OiO. mited States bonds were all un

CHICAGO March 1. Increasing stocks
in Minneapolis and a poor demand for flour
In tho same market waa chiefly responsi
ble for a fresh decline In the price here.
At the close wheat for May delivery waa
down fee. Corn was off fee. Oats showed
a loss ot Vi&ic. rians were 2Wc to 20c
lower.
Tho wheat market was weak all day.
and tho May option declined to the lowest
point in nearly threo year. Tho low mark

eral loading commission house sold freely
early in the day, and the decline result
ing from this selling brought out numer
ou stop-losa orders, the expectation of
which caused still greater weakness
Many damage reports wero received from
Kansaa City and St. Louis, but they had
apparently little influence. The market
closed weak, although prices had rallied
slightly on covering by shorts. May
opened a shade lower to a shade higher,
at llo to KISc, sold off to SuAt&ttOSc, and
closed at ouVttJttOHc Clearances of wheat
and flour were equal to 341,000 bushels,
Minneapolis, Duluth and Chicago reported
receipt ot 473 cars, against a holiday last
week and 394 car a year ago.
Com opened steady, but eased off later
In sympathy with wheat.. There waa some
selling by rash houses' against country
purchases, and commission houses sold
freely on stop loss orders. Pit trader were
th principal buyer. The weather wa
favorable for the movement of tho crop,
and local recelpta wer In excess of the
estimate, arrivals today being 29s car,
with two of contract grade. -
A decline of 44c to He In the price of
cash corn had a depressing Influence. Th
market closed easy, with prices near tho
lowest point of th day. . May opened un
changed to He lower, at 4ati43io to 43 w
434c, sold off to 4rt,c and closed at 42!ttf
43c.
Weakness of wheat and corn "had a bear
ish effect on the pries of oats. Cash In

and the price of cash oats was down 4c

. Provisions opened fairly steadv on small
recelpta of live hogs, but weakness devel
oped immediately after the opening be
cause of the liquidation of a Urge line of
perk and .ribs by a leading bull. An In
crease of stocks of provisions at Liverpool
helped (he decline. The market ben-am

1KX1S The receipts of hogs this morning
were larger than usual on a Thursday,
which or itself was a good bear argu
ment. In addition to that advices from all
Other selling points Imllcsteil a lower range
of values. Speculators started the thing
going quite early, buying a few hogs that
were only a shade lower. They we:e pretty
well tilted up. however, snd hi fore any
one was- aware of what was going on the
niatkft was 5'nlHc lower than yesterday.
The trade was very slow at the decline,
buyers being Indifferent nnd "tilly confi
dent that everything was in their favor
and that they could afford to force the
niarkft downward or leave the hogs alone.
It was very late In the forenoon before ar.y
business of consequence was transacted
and nnusuallv late before anything like a
clearance was effected. As will be noted
from the sales below, the most or the
hogs sold Inside the range of ii"(it.074.

CATTLE Receipt of cattle were some
what above the average for a Thursday,
169 cars being reported in, as against 140
one week ago and 142 two weeks ago. The
quality of the arrivals did not average
very high, there being a considerable
amount of trash in the pens.
Packers did not appear very hungry for
beet steers this morning; in fact it wa
very apparent that they had a liberal sup
ply already un hand, having bought freely
of the large receipts during the tlrst half
of the week. The fact that the receipts
for the four days this week run consider
ably above last week's liberal record has
placed the buyers where they could easily
afford to take the bear side of the deal.
In consequence they started out late this
morning and the market was decidedly on
the drag right from the first, with prices
anywhere from weak to 10c lower than
yesterday.
Cows and holfers followed steers down
hill, buyers of that kind announcing right
at the outset that they Intended to buy
tuff lower or leave it In the pens. It
would be safe to rail the cow market all
of luc lower than yesterday's general mar
ket; in fact, some who sold at the very
high point yesterday thought that It was
worse than that.
More stockers and feeders have been
coming this week than usual. With the re
sult that the country demand has hardly
kept up with the supply and there has been
a tendency during the two days for cattle,
of that description Jo accumulate in the
hands of speculator nd yard operators,
naturally enough, the csttle In first bands
this morning did not fare as well as on
previous days, the market being slow and
generally a llltl lwer even on the good
kinds.

SHEEP
fm lunate time, as the market Is In any
thing hut a strong position. During 1-nt
the demand for mutton Invariably falls off
lo a considerable extent and this year does
not promise, to bo any exception to the
general rule, in fact the demand was none
too good before the beginning of Ixnt, and
the conllnuance of sott weather Is also u
decided drawback. With only a lew de
siralile sheep in sight this morning buyer
picked out a lew loads which Just hap
pened to suit them at prices that lld not
show much change from yesterday. The
general feeling, however, was weak and
the tendency lower. The snap and life so
characteristic of the sheep trade at this
point waji largely wanting.
Ijintbs were In a good deal the same con
dltlon as yesterday, that Is. the demand
waa limited, no one apparently wanting
any great numoer. witn a slow and an
indifferent demand th trade was lute in
opening and prices generally a little lower
even on the gotal kinds.
