The district judges were busy most ni yesterday wrestling with the revision of the rules that are to govern the county Jail hereafter. From the bits of Information that have leaked out on the aubject. It seems fairly certain that the revised rules will provide for the county buying all fur nishings for the Jail, as at present Sheriff McDonald and his attorney, A. W. Jefferis, appeared before the Judges, set out their view of the Statutory provision and Indicated what they would like to have embodied In the rules. The sheriff has felt that he should be allowed to provide the furnishings required, in the way of bed ding, eating utensils, clothing and things of that sort and be recompensed by the county for the use of the same in connection with the feeding of the inmates. After discus sion, the Judges are thought to have reached a different conclusion, towlt: That the county buy In open market whatever may be necessary for the maintalnanre ot the jail outside of feeding the prisoners. and then pay the sheriff whatever the com missioners may decide is fair for the latter service. "A good cigar s a smoke," and a smok ing jacket Is the Ideal condition for the smoke. There are few men who would not appreciate most fully a comfortable smok ing Jacket to slip on when sitting down for the evening's "pipe dresm," and few men who do not smoke who would hot gain quite as much thorough enjoyment from the possession of one. Many women do not realise how welcome a gift this ssme gar ment would be to the master of the house. Here is sketched a coat which Is fashioned after the latest models and so cut as to be as easily msde as possible for the benefit of the home dressmaker. The materials used are quilted silk, heavy woolen serge, velveteen and blanketing. The lining may offer a contrast and silk frogs or buttons and loops act as fasteners. Two pockets appesr in front and assist in. giving a tailory look. In the medium slse the coat requires 2 yards of 64-Inch material. Blzes, 82 to 44 Inches, breast measure.
