In a friendly onu and originated in the city

building a station in the Fifth ward.
The charter authorizes the city to Issue

streets, but the remaining lOu.UOO was re
quested by ordinance and in the proclama
tion both for building the Fifth ward tiouso
and getting a lot to place it on.
The discrepancy was noted by the attor
neys for Brandels & Sons, who bought the
bonds, and alter discussion It wus decided
to get a court ruling on the point In order
tu safeguard all Interests.
The reul point at Issue Is whether the
city has any right to Issue bonds or uso
money from bonds for buying real estate.
It Is contended there is no authority for
issuing, Helling or using the proceeds of
bonds for doing aught with fire engine
houses, but paying for the cost of construc
tion. It would not surprise the legal depart
ment to have the courts take this view. In
rase the decision is that way it means sub
mission again to the voters at the spring
election, or for the third time, and con
siderable delay in the erection of the buildings.
