No. 6376 A CHARMING MORNING GOWN.
One of the most graceful of the new
morning gowns is sketched here for the
benefit of the woman who enjoys dainty
apparel. It is a design quite simple In its
construction, so much that the least ex
perienced could fashion It without difficulty
and yet expressive of so much style and
comfort that the woman of fashion might
well count It among her chlefest treasures.
Albatross. In a delicate shade of lavendsr
was used In the one shown, having a daint
ily embroidered collar and vest of whit
batiste or mull. The ribbon girdling the
waist Is of lavender to correspond and the
effect of the whole Is very delightful. The
elbow sleeve may be finished with a frill
of the material or a finely pleated silk
and the collar revers edged with the same.
The design Is one suited to a variety of
materials. A dainty effect might be ob
tained, using tne lingerie fabric outside
and a lining of tinted silk as Is done In
so many of the smartest gowns. For the
medium slse this wrapper requires
yards of 86-Inch material.
6376 sixes 82 to 42 Inches bust measure.
For the accommodation of readers of The
Bee these patterns, which usually retail at
from 26 tc 60 cents esch. will be furnished
at the nominal price of 10 cents. A supply
la now kept at our office, so those who
wish any pattern can get It either by call
ing or enclosing 10 cents, addressed "Pat
tern Department, Bee, Omaha."
BEAN BILL 0F THE HUB
Boston apends a Snag Pile Earh
Tear for Its Favorite
More monsry is spent each year In Boston
In buying baked beans than would buy
the largest battle ship In the United States.
In 1904 the gross receipts of beans In Bos
ton were more than 68,000 barrels. In each
barrel are five bushels. The average price
at which theae ware sold by the whole
salers was $1.85 a bushel, and when these
beans were sold again by retailers to their
customers they brought an average of 12
cents a pound, or a grand total of $6,698,272.
There are other places where beans are
used, but they are not Boston beans, and
ran never be, unless the man who super
Intends their baking happens to have
served an apprenticeship In some of the
So tremendous has the demand for baked
beans become In Boston that two com
panies have been formed whose business Is
to bake beans for restaurants and quick
lunch establishments. One of these com-
! panles uses nn average of 4,000 quarts a
week and the other 10.000, yet the beans
that these companies bake are but a drop
In the bucket compared with the consump
tion of the city.
The most remsrkable feature of this
remarkable consumption of beans Is that
the demand Is steadily Increasing, and that
16.000 mora barrels of beans were sold in
Boston in 1904 than In 190S. There are sea
sons In which the demand for this staple
la greater than others, notably the months
from Thanksgiving to April.
Taking the receipts In Boston for 1904
of 68.732 barrels, that would give the num
ber of bushels 343,660, or 10.SW7.120 quarts,
weighing 21, 994.240 pounds.
Accepting the population of Boston ap
proximately 6fJ.0nn, this would give each
Inhabitant, men and women, boys, girls
and bablea, an average of thirty-seven
quarts. These thirty-seven quarts of beans
wop Id weigh 14S pounds. New England
