CHICAGO CillAlX AMI PROVISIONS
Features of the Trading and Closing;
Prices on Board of Trad.
CHICAGO. Den. 12. Favorable weather
fur harvesting In Argentina caused weak
ness today in trie wheat market nere. At
the close wheat for May delivery was off
4Vc, corn waa down 4ti4c, oats shewed
a loss of 4i74! and provisions were prac
tically unchanged.
The sentiment In the wheat pit was
liearlnh throughout the day. Tho factor
chiefly responsible for this feeling was a
tublcjrrafv . trow, , Arg entlna .which slated
that'rhe' dnmago td the crops in that coun
try by rain had been slight and that about
4! per cent of the croo had already been
l.itrvested. The fact that prlcea for wheat
nt Liverpool were lower substantiated In
the mind of local traders the accuracy of
the advices from Argentina. A decreased
demand fur cash wheat at the principal
gruln centers In this country was another
weakening Influence. During the first half
i.f the session commission nouses and pit
traders were persistent sellers, but their
offerings met with only moderate response.
This resulted In a considerable decline.
Later there vus active buying by shorts
mid much of tho early loss was regained.
The market closed fairly steady. May
rpened a shade to 4fi'4fi lower at 896S4c
sold oft to RS&8S4c and closed at RTc.
Clearances of wheat and flour were equal to
!!'.0O) bu. Primary receipts were 727.0UO bu..
against 774.000 bu. one year ago. The
world's visible supply, as shown by Brad
street's. Increased 3.500.000 bu. Minneap
olis. Duluth and Chicago reported receipts
of 656 cars, against 685 cars last week and
727 cars a year ago.
Prospects of a liberal Increase In the
movement of corn weakened today's mar
ket. There was liquidation by a number
of prominent longs and much selling by
commission houses. Weather throughout
the corn belt waa reported as highly favor
able for handling the crop and this caused
an Increased selling pressure, which con
tlnued until the close. Mny opened Vft'c.
lower at 444?l444o. sold off to 44u444c and
closed easy at 44 44V. Local receipt
were b4 cars, wnn 14 cars of contract
grade.
Weakness of wheat and corn caused
moderate selling of oat by pit trader.
A a result the market had a weak under
tone, but buying by several bulls checked
the decline. The close was steady. May
opened a shade to 4c lower at 8::4'u32ac,
sold off to 3:4f'34? and closed at 324c.
jocai receipts were ai cars.
Provisions were weak because of free
selling of pork and lard. The chief de
i-llne was In Junuary, which sold off Ibc.
Heavy rerelpts of live hogs caused the de
cline In price. , Ribs held steady because
of light offering. At the close May pork
was off 2Vc at J 13.40. I.ard was down 24o
at 373'-'4. nibs were up a shade at 17.15.
Estimated receipts for tomorrow: Wheat,
7 ears; corn, 317 cars; oats, 113 cars; hogs,
44.010 head.

NEW YORK. Dec. 11 This wss another
day of artlve and varied speculation In the
'""it market, although the volume or the
radlng was not fully up to that of yes
terday, which reached the maximum for
the season Selling to realise profits was
ery clearly In evidence at many points
hrotighout the day, but this process aas
ecompnsned with good success and wss In
net one of the most encouraging Incidents
r the market. The only decided breaks
were at the very last.
The small general nubile share In the
speculation has been the subject of con
stant comment and skepticism has gained
force as to the ability to dispose at a profit
of the enormous accumulation In special
stocks which rave been made by pools and
organised parties In the process of ad
vances in prices to tne unprecedented levels
reached. Nearly all the stocks which made
conspicuous gains yesterday were under
Uiis realizing process today. Some of them
opened higher and maintained some of their
gulns without extending them, Reading
being a notable example. In others the
opening gains were yielded almost Imme
diately, but prices were not allowed to re
cede to any extent below last night. As
sustaining forces In the market there was a
return to the method of furious activity
and spectacular advances In special stocks
nd those selected today were found again
amongst the industrials In the majority of
cases. Stocks having to do with the various
metal Industrials, especially Copper and
Iron, were conspicuous. A substantial basis
for the strength In this group were the
trade conditions In those Industries. -ine
market price of copper was again advanced
In this market and trade reports asserted
hat sales ahead for many months had al
ready been made uo to the productive ca
pacity of the trade at the present profitable
level or prices. The brilliant conditions in
tho Iron and steel trade also received ex
tensive attention and discussion by the pre
sentation of many detailed facts bearing
upon different departments of that trade. It
waa asserted that the value of November
exports of the products of the United States
steel corporation was tne largest on recoru,
notwithstanding the enormous demands and
the hlirh or Ices nrevalllng. Some of tne

SHEEP There was a moderate run of
heep on the market today, thlrtv-seven
cars about in poo head- being reported In.
This shows the receipts for the dnv to be
smaller than the run for the same day
last week by about I.ooo head. A com
pared with last year the run Is larger by
about 2. Ml) head. The quality of the sneep
offered was a l.ttle better than usual of
late, but a third or more of the offerings
consisted of feeders. Trains were late
irtiln todnv. so thnt the stock dirt nr.
get to the barns until late. In the morning.
There was. a rather small supply of fat
sheep on the n.arket this morning, the most
of the offerliiK. however, were of fairly
good quality. Tarkers were out at the
barns early looking for desirable killing
sheep, but they were forced td stand
sro.ind for some time and wait for the
stuff to get In and be shaped up. What
good stock was on the market sold readily
at prices that were fully steady with yes
terday. There era a a fairly liberal supply of feed
ing sheep and lambs on the market. There
were quite a number of country buyers In,
so that there was active demand for good
feeder sheep. Oood. choice feeders sold
readily at prices thnt were fully steady.
The common kinds sold fairly well, but
were Inclined to be a trifle easier than yes
terday. Quotations on fst sheep and lambs: Oood
