MOUNTAIN STIRS FEELINGS Impressions with m Payehelegleai Toach Wrought by Tower Ins; Peaks. The story of the man who was so fright ened at the notion of going up Into the mountains that he tried to Jump from ths window of an overland train as R climbed the Colorado steeps to Raton, comos from Denver, to furnish material for some short story with the psychological touch. He was a man from San Francisco who had been in the east on a visit. He became 111. and his wife decided tliat he should be taken h4-k to the Pacific coast. Aa tbe train passed through Kansas and climbed the long, gradual slope toward La Junta, the man became very much concerned over the probable effect of the high altitude upon him. Twice In his life, he Insisted, he had lost his reason temporarily by reason of the rarefied atmosphere of the mountains. The thought of the long, steep climb up the slopes of the Raton range In Colorado terrified him, and he declared that he would Jump out of the window and end It. Pas sengers in the Pullman were called upon to watch him, and a number of times before the train reached Trinidad they had lo hold him In his seat. At that place a special agent of the railroad got on the car and rode with the Callfornlan. Between Trini dad and Raton the road passes the high est point on Us line, where the long tun nel through the Raton range begins the descent Into New Mexico. After leaving Trinidad, the man Wanie very much ex cited, and as the train began the Blow ascent of the long mountain he rose from bis seat several times and gazed Alldly from side to side at the steep walls of the canon. His wife talked with him sooth ingly, while the agent hold him down iinlil they reached the tunnel, whin the dark ness seemed to quiet him. and by the time they had reached Raton he was almost rational. This story Is In strong contrast to a recently pub'.lshed prlz. -winning lale of a little old woman In Chicago wiui was going Mind and who wanted, above every, thing rise In the world, to see the mountains again before her sight was gopa forever. Roth are suggestive of the very real lnllu erne nf mountains in human Uvea. New York Evening Post. Unmounted diamonds. Edholm, jeweiee, BraceltU-Freiiger, 1Kb and Podge,
