' dieted Saturday, the world's shipments for
. the week showed a considerable Increase
- over the corresponding time of "the last
, report, the total movement being esti
mated at 13.936,000 bushels against 1,592,000
,, bushels a year ago. A feature of the sttv
w tlstlea was the liberal contribution from,
Russia, total exports of wheat from that
country for the week being placed at over
6,000,000 bushels compared' with 4,800,000
bushels a year ago. Another bearish factor
was an Increase of 480,000 bushels In tha
.amount of breadstuff s on ocean passage.
bThes Influences were mainly . responsible
r for the small decline at the opening. Pit
r traders and commission houses sold freely.
during the first half hour, but when a
. leading bull came Into the pit as a buyei ,
, offerings became small. Demand from the
.bull leader was a feature of trading dur
Ing the last half hour. MlnnatoUe re
ported cash wheat In urgent demand at
higher premiums. Duluth also reported a
good demand for the cash articles. Greatly
reduced receipts In the northwest stimu
.' la ted demand here for options. The mar
ket closed firm with prices near the highest
of the day. May opened V'S4o to Vo-Ho

, wheat and flour were equal to 734,000 bush-
els. Primary receipts were 918.000 bushels
compared with 1,208,000 bushels a year ago;
Minneapolis, Duluth and Chicago reported
. a-ecelpts of 637 cars against 1,282 cars last
week and 1,068 cars a year ago.
As a result of the active demand from
leading longs and good buying by commis
sion houses the market was firm through
, out the entire session. Small acceptances
. from the country, an Improved cash and
export demand and declarations to the ef
fect that farmers are holding out for 40
cent corn all tended to create bullish sen
timent. The market closed ' firm. May
opened a lower at- 44V, sold up to 4ac
and closed at'44c. Local receipts Were
23 cars with 3 cars of contract grade.
A decrease of 456,000 bushels lu the visl-

were bullish factors In the oats market.
Shorts were the best buyers during the
lat half of the day and the market was
, active. The close., was firm with prices
at the -highest point of the day. May

Notwithstanding an early decline of 5(9

NEW YORK, Dec. 4. The stock market
showed much further unsettlement today
under the condition of widening Russian
disturbances and our own tight money mar.
ket. As the dsy progressed these In
fluences seemed to lose their force for a
time and stocks recovered their losses. The
upward movement of the later dealings
was desultory and spotty In the last de
gree. The high grade railroad stocks and
the better known Industrials played small
part in the movement and speculative ac
tivity was diverted again In a marked de
gree to stocks of a minor grade, especially
non-dividend paying Industrials.
Money continued In rather scanty supply
and loaned above 8 per cent from the outset.
Some of the forces of depletion of bank
reserves also were still In operation. But
since the speculation has weathered a 25
per cent rate this detriment seemed to lean
on the conviction that Friday's 15 per cent
rate might safely be Ignored, especially as
the stringency was somewhat relaxed to
day. The banks are losing again to the
sub-treasury, the amount gone Into that In
stitution since the bank statement was
made up already rising to over a million !
Hollars, while the credit Balance at me
clearing house this morning Indicated a
continuance of the drain. New York ex
change at Chicago also rose to 6 cents
premium against the 10 cent discount ruling
on' Saturday. The money market probably
was affected by some return In the way of
dividend and Interest disbursements of the
sums accumulated for the December 1
settlement. Sterling exchange rates de
clined, the supply In that market being
replenished by bankers' finance bills, the
proceeds of which went into our money
msrket. Discounts declined In London in
spite of the sharp turn In the continental
exchages against London. The movement
of sterling exchange at Paris was particu
larly marked. That financial center hns to
bear the brunt of the disorderly conditions
of Russian finance. The slump 1n Russian
government bonds was reflected In free
liquidation of other securities In which
Paris Is largely Interested. In order to pro
tect their holdings of Russl&ns. The un
dulating confidence with which French
holders of RuskIhh securities held through
the strain of the Japanese war has given
way to a condition of mind bordering on
demoralisation. A financial convulsion In
St. Petersburg must And some reflection In
other markets of the world through the
Paris outlet.
Railroad officials gave out the reports
which have come to be customary, of pre
vailing car shortages and freight conges
tions, with prospects or worse conuttions
when Inclement weather sets In and when
the srreat corn crop begins to move. These
assertions of a volume of trafllo which it
is hopeless to accommodate were some
what impaired In their effect by the notice
of a cut In export cornrates by St. Paul to
contest for that traffic with the gulf lines.
Some attention was given to the Increasing
Issues of new stock and bonds of various
corporations. American Telephone and
Telegraph sold off points on the re-
rorted Intention to seek authority for a new
100.000,000 convertible bond Issue. Space
forbids enumeration of the many special
ties seldom active which made fairly sensa
tional gains. Their slight Influence was
shown In the renewal of the weakness In
the late general demand.

The disposition of the day's receipts was
as follows, each buyer purchasing the num
ber of head Indicated:
uattie. riogs.eneep.
SHEEP Receipts of shesn this morning
were very small, It being the lightest run
for the first day of the week since the
middle of August. For some time bark
the receipts have been large every Mon
day, so that the falling off In the number
arriving this morning was something of a
surprise. At the same time that the re
ceipts were light, the demand waa very
good and sellers had no trouble at all
In disposing of their holdings at prices
entirely satisfactory to owners. The trade
as a whole might be described as a- good
strong and active market, although there
were spots where sales were made at
decidedly higher prices. As high as $6.50
was paid for good ewes, good wethers st
$6.80, yearlings at $6.26 and lambs at $7.16.
and lambs at $7.16.
The trade was reasonably active at the
prevailing prices so that the most of the
receipts changed hands In very good
season In the morning.

CATTLE There was a very fair run of
cattle here this morning, there being a
total of 273 cars In sight as against 13 a
week ago anil 231 cars two weeks ago. The
receipts in tact were me Heaviest ui uj

of beef steers consisted very
med ud or half fed corn teas
end there was really very little of anything
that could be graded as reany very goou.
Owing to the fact that the market was
very high at this point last week buyers
would naturally have been a little bearish
today, but when reorts were received from
other selling points Indicating a ' sharp
break In prices all along the line they
started but bidding decidedly mean prices.
Sellers were not prepared to let go without
a struggle and the trade was a drag from
start to finish so that It was late before
very much business was transacted. Prices
Were all of lntJlSe lower.

HOGS There was a very fair run of hogs
at this point for Monday. In fact, receipts
of all points were liberal. The bulge In
the provision market last week brought
about a sharp advance In thu hog market
on Friday and Saturday. This morning
there was a reaction and the hog market
at all points was reported luwtr. On the
opening here the market was slow and all
of 51 UK- lower. Sellers fought hard against
the break, but gradually U-t go of a auod
many of their holdings. 1-uter on, under
the influence of a better provlalon market,
prices finned up so that the market closed
active and stronger, most of the decline
being resalnrd. As will be noud from the
sales below, hogs sold aa high a 818..
The bulk of all hogs went at Hu4;
with a good many sales at $4 8
