Whsn the ratl roada enjoined County Treasurer Fin from enllectlns their' 1905 taxe they aid at the same time, tie p the city taxes, aa Mr. Fin -become the city treasurer the first of the year and the city taxes are baaed on the county assessment Last year the railroads filed a supplemental suit to atop the city taxes, but this year, owing to the consolidation of the two offices, this will not be necessary. Monday morning- City Attorney Breen said his department In- city Interest In the matter. The- Union Pacific and Burlington hare both secured temporary Injunctions re straining' the various . county treasurers from -collecting the full amount of their taxes.' These Injunctions were granted by Judge Munxer of the federal court and the iwiita are returnable December 86. lff Flaht Impending. Attorney General Brown hss launched outsartetormlned fight for the enforcement of thb" taw In the matter of collecting these taxi 'and with the aid of the city In the case of Douglas county and Omaha, his efforts are expected to carry great weight. The railroads are likewise arraying their strongest forces, for the fray. Some senti mental persons had predicted, after the Union Pacific had obtained Its writ of In junction, that the Burlington would make a great political ten-strike by rushing In and handing the state treasurers the full amount of Its taxes Just In order to show the dear people of Nebraska that Its heart was still in the right place, and Incidentally In order to regain lost political prestige. Hut such tricks are not practiced by the railroads of Nebraska on each other, and the Burlington didn't propose at this late day to be that mean to Its arch enemy, the Union Pacific. ' '' Depotles to serve Pa sera. Forty-three special deputy United States marshals have been apolnted to serve the necessary Injunction papers on the dif ferent county officials through which the Burlington passes to restrain the county officials from Issuing distress warrants against ihe Burlington agents In the matter of the IMC taxes, which becames due and delinquent December l.: No special deputies were found necessary In the Union Pacific rases, aa the different station agents of that road could be reached by regular process from the office of the United States marshal In this city. . The, order In both Instances applies to restraining the county officers from seising upon the property or funds of the railway companies In the hands of the several agents In ' satisfaction of the taxes due December 1. , J O 0 0 i PONTON gW-jg Opens Toytand I Runt sm b'Mq LLyja. Mr. Torke evidently knew little of Omaha, tor he addressed his missive Ohama, U. B. A.' .It reads aa follows: . I am Interested in a pamphlet Issued In connection with your enterprise, which was lilven me by Mr. Bousa when lie was over here in connection Willi his concerts, which I had the pleasure of organising and man aging throughout, and as we are about to construct a similar building in London. I should be dewply gratified if you could send me any further particulars, together with photographs and sketches In connection therewith. I understand that the building when tinWtheU, apart from the land, will cost llw.OOO. . or about ' 40,009 English money, which, seems to m absurdly cheap.
