CHICAOO, Nov. 29 Political disorder

half of tno session trauiug was active, but
later In the day the vmume of business
was very small. snorts and commission

, greatest demand comma- from the shorts
some of wnom were unwilling to take the
ennncs ot any possible Russian develop

l nanksgivlng day recess. An advance of
i"J"d at Liverpool waa largely tne result
of report of fresh outbreaks In that coun

care to risk the possibility of further dis
turbances. According to advices from Ar
gentina harvesting lias been largely de

aard in the northwest, which would check
the movement of wheat to market, and
n Prediction of a cold wave In the eoulh
. west, which might injure the fall-sown
crop, also tended to Increase prices. In
addition to these Influences cash wheat
was in active demand at all grain centers

NEW TORK. Nov . The pace of the
speculation was halted In today stock
market partly as a general revulsion from
the volatile rise of the last few tlaa In
special stocks and partly from a narrow
ing of the resources In the money market
which exercised some constraint upon spec
ulative activity. The effect of the excessive
buoyancy wns most pronounced In the
southern Iron group and some other metal
Industrials. The railroad list moved but
narrowly and was as slightly affected, com
paratively, with the violent reactions in th
Industrials a It has been for several days
Kst by their advance. It might almost
said that holders of standard securities
showed a sense of relief at the check to the
extravagant rushing up of prices amongst
the industrial.
The generul list was not free from evi
dence of depression, however, and violent
fluctuations continued to characterise the
Industrial department. Lead, especially,
made a further advance of OH during the
day In repetition of its course for several
days past, and while It waa not free from
Ui reactionary effect of the general move
ment It perslated In Its upward course.
Tennessee Coal and Slogs-Sheffield Pteel, on
the other hand, slumped In a way to cause
apprehension of disastrous consequences to
tne speculative holder In Oie etoc4. The
persistent heaviness of United States Steel
stocks In face of the movement In other
Iron and steel Industrials Is In spite of the
rumor Industriously circulated that the con
trol of th Independent companies, Is sought
on behalf of that corporation. The rumors
regarding the group continued and t he
snares showed considerable resiliency. The
assertions of passage of control of National
Lead also persisted and the movements of
Cotton Oil and Virginia Chemical were
coupled with talk of an Intended merger. St.
Paul derived no benefit from the plan of the
extension to the Pacific coast. The lack of
subscription privileges to the company
treasury stock wa a disappointment to some
of the recent speculative bnvers and the
general policy of th ju.isnn d'd not seem
sufficiently attractive to offset this dlsap-
Klntment. Some wiknes in Northern
clflc preferred was attributed to the ef
fect of this threatened rlvalrv, but Union
Pacific, the moat active market stock
amongst the transcontlnentl lines, showed
some resistance to the heavy undertone of
the market. With the Thanksgiving holi
day coming on the last day of the month,
preparations for the December first settle
ment made themselves felt In the money
market today. The shifting of accounts
Incident to these prerjar.tr'on resulted In
running the call money rate up to 3 per
cent. The day' report of subtrnasury op
erations showed losses to that Institution
extended to nearly $3,500,000 for the week,
mu iora exennnge at Chicago hung
at par today, marking the subsidence of
the cash movement from Hint center. The
holiday interval bad some etUct in prompt
ing the closing out of speculative commit
ment. The storm wwv.her In the north
west and the hindrance to railroad traffic
was taken Into consl loraUon In view of
the serious congestions a'ready existing.
The movement in Ama.r: mated Conner
was In response to the continued rise In
the price of Its product. The declaration
of another 10 per cent extra, dividend on
Lackawanna was regarded as explanatory
of the extraordinary price e-vel at which
that atock has been held, but Its general
effect was not dtscernable. The unsettle
ment was accentuated In the later dealings
by the flurry In call money and St. P- 1, a
decline of 2Vi In the last hour had consid
erable Influence on settlement.

with the run for the first three day of last
week Is maller by about 3,000 head.
There was but very little good stuff on
the market this morning and there was
practically no cornfed stock In sight at all.
There were a few pretty nice loads of west
ern cattle on the market and these found
ready sain at prices that were strong to a
dim higher. laekers were out early and
were evidently wanting a good supply of
cattle. The eastern markets are In rather
fioor shape, but the market at this point Is
n a good, healthy condition. The trade on
beef steers closed active, with prices strong
to a full dime higher.
There was a moderate run of cow and
heifer on the market this morning, while
the demand for that kind of cattle wax ac
tive and prices were steady to strong.
Packers were wanting a supply of tide ;;lnd
of stock and local buyers were out witn a
few outside orders, so that with the Ja
mand no good the prices naturally ad
vanced and the market closed strong to 10c
higher.
There wns only a light supply of stockers
and feeders on the market today and the de
mand for that kind of stock was not so
very good. There were a considerable num
ber of country buyers In today, but they
were looking for the better grade of stuff,
so that prices did not follow the example
set by the other kinds of cattle, but closed
the day steady. Representative sales:
