EVANS ASKED TO SHOW CAUSE
Sixth Ward Councilman Is Requested
to Explain Certain Action
to Constituents.
At a meeting of the Druid Hill Improve
ment club Monday night the secretary was
Instructed to Fend this communication to
Councilman Evans;
OMAHA. Nov. 28.-Mr. B. D. Evans.
City Hall: Dear Sir At. a meeting of the
Druid Hill Improvement club Inst night
the secretary was Instructed to write you
and a.ik that you either appear before the
club or write It the reasons you had In
repealing the ordinance you fathered re
quiring the signatures of property owners
within 1,000 feet of the property upon
which a gas tank was to be erected. In
troduced when the gas company talked of
erecting a plant near your property. Now
that the company will no1 build near your
property, would you Introduce an ordinance
with the same feature If they were to
locate In some part of the ward you rep
resent? As the spring elections are get
ting nearer every duy. the club desires this
Information at as early a dste as possible.
Yours truly, E. L. PLATZ, Secretary.
The club went after the sidewalk In
that part of the olty and urged th neces
sity of repairing them. The club Is anx
ious for the street railway company to
build north on Thirtieth street to Pratt,
west on Pratt to Thirty-second and north
on Thirty-second to Bpauldlng and east on
Spauldlng to Thirtieth, thus making a loup
and doing away with the switching on
Thirtieth street. A committee was ap
pointed to see Manager Smith about the
matter. A committee was also appointed
to attend the council meeting Tuesday
nlh'ht and see what could be done In re
gard to constructing crossings on Thirty
third and Sahler and Thirty-second and
Evans streets. The opening of Thirty
third street and the grading of the same
for the boulevard was discussed.
Councilman Evans stated Tuesday after
noon that he had not yet received the com
munication from the club, but that when
It came he probably would make his an
swer to tha club. He did not taks the
matter seriously.
TWO FIRES IN ONE HOUSE
Second One Break Oat Within Tare
Hoar of the

Two fires In ths one house within thre
hours was the urusual circumstance trans

house la owned by the First National
bank. The house at 2617 Farnam street,
occupied by F. C. Stewart, was slightly

At 3:30 a. m. Manager T. J. O'Brien of
the Henshaw hotel was passing the Fry
residence and noticed smoke Issuing from
the kitchen. He at once turned In an
alarm and aroused the Fry family, all
members of which were asleep. Miss Fry.
who was upstairs, wis awakened first and
she gave the alarm to the rest of the
household.
The fire department reached th house in
