Sealed bids addressed to the undersigned,
and plainly marked "Proposals for Refund
ing Bonds," will be received at the office of
the City -Clerk, South Omaha, Neb., until 8
o'clock p. m. October 80th, A. D. 1905.
For the purchase of the following de
scribed Issue, of city bonds of the City of
South Omaha, these aald bonds so offered
for sale being general obligations of the
city, namely:
Seventy thousand and eight ($70,008) dol
lars of city refunding bonds, Issued for the
purpose of refunding seventy thousand and
eight t.0.0u( dollars In city funding bonds,
dated November 1, 1900, now outstanding
under a reserved option.
These bonds so offered will be issued and
numbered, consecutively, from one to 140,
or 70, both Inclusive (except number one,
which shall be of the denomination of $508
or $1,008, as the case may be), and will be
of the denomination of $o00 or $l,0uo each at
the option of the purchaser, dated Novem
ber 1, A. D. 1906, due and payable ln twenty
(2u) years after date, unless sooner re
deemed under the legal option of the city
at any time arter nve (b) years rrom oate,
bearing Interest at the rate of four and one
half (4V,r per cent per annum, payable
semi-annually, May and November 1 of
each year, Interest Installments evidenced
by coupons attached to the bonds, bunds
and the Interest coupons payable at the
fiscal agency of ttie state of Nebraska, in
the City of New York, state of New York,
United States of America.
These said refunding bonds are issued for
the purpose of redeeming and refunding
certain outstanding funding bonds of series
dated November 1, A. D. 1900. which fund
ing bonds were Issued and sold under ex
isting constitutional and statutory provis
ions of the City of South Omaha, Neb., and
it Is further certified that the faith and
credit of the City of South Omaha are
firmly bound and revenue powers are Irre
vokably pledged for the prompt payment of
these said refunding bonds and interest
thereof semi-annually, and at maturity
thereof.
Also that the total Indebtedness of the
city, Including this Issue of bonds, has not
exceeded the constitutional and statutory
limits, and that an annual tax, and other
taxea and assessments to pay principal and
Interest, as the same respectively fall due,
shall be levied and made.
Each bidder must state separately the
amount he will offer for this issue entire,
as to "principal and premium," and that
"accrued Interest," will be paid to the date
and delivery of said bonds, also as to the
amount of the charge, If any, that will be
made additional, by the purchaser, for the
printing ami lithographing of this said
series of bonds.
Each bid must be accompanied by cash,
or an unconditional certified check on a
registered national bank, in the sum of one
thousand ($l.out dollars, and made payable
to the City of South Omaha, Neb., aa an ev
idence of good faith on the part of the said
bidder.
The City of South Omaha, through Its
City Council, reserves the right to reject
any or all bids, or to waive defects should

The Omaha postofflce la being besieged
with complaints from some of the patron
of the suburban postofflce stations of the
city relative to an apparent delay In the de
livery of mall to the general office on Sum
days after It Is deposited In the sub-station.
Said Postmaster Palmer In reference to the
matter:
"The trouble Is not ao much the fault
of the postofflce aa It Is of the patrons.
Hitherto It has been the rule to receive
mall at the sub-stations until noon, at
which time the pouches were made up and
the mall sent down to the main office. Of
course, any mall deposited after that hour
would have to lay over until Monday
morning. We have, however, Just estab
lished a rule to receive mail at the sub
stations until 1 o'clock p. m. Sundays, at
which time the pouches will be made up
and sent to the main office In order to
catch the afternoon malls."
Apropos this matter it will be noticed
the mail boxes at the Sixteenth street front
of the postofflce have been removed. This
was done for tha reason that many people
were In the habit of depositing urgent mall
ln this box, instead of going a few steps
further and putting It direct In the post-
office. As a consequence urgent malt de
posited In that street box did not receive
any more attention than mall deposited In
other mall boxes about the central part
of the city when the regular scheduled
collections were made. Hence In many
cases urgent mall was delayed from ona to
several hours. This trouble has been ob
viated now by the removal of this box,
so that all urgent mail may now be placed
directly in the postofflce, where It will re
ceive Immediate attention.

Mrs. Kate Martin of 638 Union Street, Han
nibal, Mo., has written to Chief of Folic
Donahue a letter which reflects the
anguish of a mother, who has not seen her
only daughter for sixteen years. Chief
Donahue la making every effort to locate
the young woman In Omana.
Mrs. Martin's story Is that twenty-ona
years ago she was compelled to give her
only daughter to a family named Simon
for adoption. Tha daughter took tha nam
of "Minnie Simon," and last visited her
mother sixteen year ago. The mother
believes tha daughter ha married and
now reaidea In Omaha, but aha has no
