CHICAGO OHAIS AND PROVI8IOJII Feataree ( ta Tradlea- aad Cleelat? Prleee Board ef Trs9. CHICAGO. Oct. 13. Increased receipts northwest and southwest created bearish sentiment today In the wheat market here. At the close tha December option was off c. Corn Is down He. Oata showed a ?:ain of Provisions are up from to o 16c. Weakness In tha wheat market developed toward the end of the first hour. At tha start tha tone waa quite Arm, December opening a shade to Vk'G'aC higher at Wit tia. A small advance at Liverpool waa credited with being responsible for part of the Initial firmness. A more potent reason possibly was open buying on the part of k- leading bull. Moderate demand from tha big longs held the market firm -Tor a time, notwithstanding several bearish factora. As a result of this buying December sold up to 86c. On withdrawal of bull support the market broke quite sharply, December declining to HHKHc. Pit traders and com mission houses were free sellers. An In fluence that contributed to the weakness was liberal movement of wheat to market. Receipts today In the northwest were of large proportions. In the southwest ar rivals were larger than for the correspond ing day a year ago. In addition, cash markets at all the principal grain centers of tha I'nlted Httes showed a slightly easier tone and there waa little In the ex port news to encourage bulls. Weakness prevailed during the remainder of the ses sion. Closing prices were at almost the lowest point of tha day. Final quotations on December were 86Hi564!. Clearances of wheat and flour were equal to 22.000 bu. Kxrorts for the week, as shown by Brad streets, were 2,774,000 bu. Primary receipta were 1.847,000 bu., compared with 1.857,000 a year ago. Mlnnenpolls, Duluth and Chl coga reported receipts of 50 cars, agalnat 819 last week and 988 a year ago. The corn market was weak from start to finish. Values eould not withstand the almost universal conviction that a record breaking crop was now practically safe from all possible Injury by frost. Several prominent commission houses were free sellers. The weakness of wheat had a bearish erTect late In the day. The market closed weak. December opened a shade to M,c lower at 44,e to 444fl M'Ac, sold off to 44c and closed at the lowest figure. Lornl receipta were 199 cars, with 47 of contract grade. Oata were easier In sympathy with the weakness of other grains. Tho Volume of trading was much smaller than for days cember owned a shade higher at 1 i off. to 2SSc and closed at the I Int. Local receipta wore 3J6 ears. ZM4,c. sold lowest point. r-rovisions were strong on active demand from shorts, and on fair buying for In vestment account. At the close January pork was up 15c at 812.6214. lard showed a gain of MtlMc at 86.96 and ribs were up I2c at 36.62. FIRM TONE OF MONEY DISCOURAGES TRADE Greater Part af Day' Meager -laess, However, Is Dea at Prlee Above Those Tharsday. ' NEW YORK. Oct 13. There ware Inter vals when trading came to a standstill at the Block exchange. The market waa dull and uninteresting throughout. The day a mearre business, however, waa nearly all done at prices above those of yesterday, A large proportion of the total tranaactlona was completed during the first hour of the session. This showed tha continuance of the rally of yesterday afternoon which was started by the utterances at the Washing ton convention of bankers. The firm tone of the money market put a stop t any large extension of the speculative opera tions and prices were left to fluctuate slug gishly for the rest of tha day In an almost Idle market. This intense dullness of any rally In prices la significant of the condition In the market. Holders do not sell unless forced to do so by withdrawal of credlta, but con ditions are so close In the money niarket that no encouragement Is given for enter ing upon operations for an advance. The rate waa pretty firmly held around per cent until the principal needs were satisfied, but fell to some extent later In tha day. The forecast of the weekly currency move ment had some influence on this result. Payments for new gold and for penslona nave reduced the losses br the banks to the sub-treaaurv to 1744.0(0. compared with tl.467,ti00 last week. But while the Interior absorbed a large amount of cash last week on the regular express movement, the loss running to nearly 85,000.000, then It appears that the movement has shifted mo far In favor of New York this week aa to have yielded to the banks something like 81,000,000 on balance. Discounts also advanced In London and sterling exchange waa easy In Paris and Berlin, although discounts at those center reacted slightly. The Stock exchange pay day in London made a special , aemanu tor money in mat marnet. The figures of the agricultural export for Bcptember show a heavy shrinkage In the vuluo of cotton exports compared with the September preceding, although ther was a heavy Increase compared with Au- f ust of this year. The result Is an un avorable comparison for the total exports compared wtlh last year In spit of the tically doubled. The week's exports of wheat and flour also rose to 2,774,463 bu., as against 1.072,642 last wek. When th trad opened this morning th market was practically bar of supplies of beef cattle, there being no cornfeds or westerns of consequence on sale. The feeling was that anything desirable In the way of beeves would command Just about steady prices. There was a little sprinkling of cow and heifer In the yards, but the offering were confined largely to odds and ends, there being comparatively few full loads on sale. Ther eemed to be a fair demand on the part of packer and th few cattle on sale changed handa for tha most part in good season at prices not quotably different from those which prevailed yesterday. Aa usual on a Friday there was no great demand for atockers or feeders, but there were so tew came 01 mai oencnp tlon In first hands that It did not require very much demand to exhaust in supply. In other words, the few cattle here brought about the same prices as yesterday and that was about all there waa to it. From the above It will be understood that it waa one of those days when, owing tn tha liarht recclnts. the market Was With- out noteworthy change In ny direction, and when tne traae was Darren 01 new or Interesting leaiures. , Representative sales: No, ' 11..
