The committee on next anniversaries.
Rev. A. H. Baliard, York, chairman, re
ported that the church at Frlead, having
Just completed a new building, had sent In
a cordial Ip-ltatlon.' for the convention next
year. It was voted that the invitation be
accepted and the next meeting will there
fore be held at Friend early in October,
190.
The enrollment committee reported that
23 delegates and visitors were present and
the convention continued the committee
until the close of todny's session In order
that delegates arriving today may be In
eluded, i,
Rev. E. R. Curry of Omaha was elected
to preach the annual sermon at Friend
next year and Rev. B. S. Hudson of Hast
ings alternate. The missionary sermon will
he by J. W. Merrill of Nebraska City, with
Rev. C. J. Tope of Grand Island as alter
nate. V Resolutions Adopted.

Inflnence of Kdacatlon.
The. annual statement of Dr. George
Sutherland, president of Grand Island col
lege, waa read. Among other things he
said:
The Influence of Baptists In the world
will drprnd upon two things: First, the
commanding and sanctified ability of the
laymen: second, a sufficiently numerous
and well-trained ministry."
Dr. Sutherland declared that half of the
r,0.A needed fpr new buildings had been
secured.
Mr. J. M. V. Henman spoke from the
standpoint of the student and gave an elo
quent orntlon on the religious life of the
college man.
Trof. J. F. Crawford told of opportunities
for teachers which he and his fellow teach
ers found among the young people at Grand
Island.
"Educational Opportunities of Nebraska
Baptists", was the title of a strong address
by Rev. B. R. Curry of Omaha. He said:
"The history of Grand Island college Is
short, but In Its fruition educationally be
yond our estimate. If Its history Is to be
a prophecy of the future of Its work, then
great things are. before It."
Mr. Curry advocated the building of n
guild hull In nearness to the state univer
sity. He cloned his appeal for Christian
education by citing the able work of
Charles Hughes, who Is conducting the
examination of the hlRh finance methods
of insurance circles, and who took the
flt-Kt part of his college course at Colgate
university and the luttrr part of his course
